The village of Kingswear is welcoming and peaceful yet it is only a five minute ferry crossing to the lively and unique Naval town of Dartmouth. From Kingswear, the Dartmouth Steam Railway departs for Paignton and offers some of the finest views over the undulating South West Coastal Path and out to sea.Across the river, Dartmouth is one of the most sought after locations in the West Country with high quality restaurants, boutique shops and many cafes. Dartmouth is also home to the Britannia Royal Naval College, an impressive building overlooking Dartmouth.

We stayed at 5 Hillside Terrace during an amazing week of warmth and sunshine. The initial climb to the property is a bit daunting, but as soon as you arrive you are rewarded with a superb view of the river, Dartmouth, and of course, the Britannia Naval College on the opposite shore.We spent a lot of time on the terrace, which is on two levels, and ate a few meals there, just taking in that wonderful view.We only used the car on two occasions because we thoroughly enjoyed the immediate area. The ferry to Dartmouth is quick and cheap, and there is good food and drink to be had just about everywhere.This was our first trip to Dartmouth but we will certainly return.
