About this property

This is a well-presented detached cottage, set on the edge of Hawkchurch village, with lovely views over local pasture and woodland, four miles inland from Lyme Regis making it ideal for friends or families who want to spend time exploring some of the best the West Country has to offer. Beautifully furnished throughout, providing contemporary accommodation all on one floor. The Bolthole is ideal for friends or families who want to spend time together in glorious Devon surroundings. The Bolthole is set on one floor. There are two bedrooms, all with king-size double beds and a family shower room. Coming through the front door you enter into a light open plan lounge, dining area. Turning left takes you into the well-equipped kitchen. The Bolthole is accessed via stone steps from the small, enclosed garden at the front, where you can enjoy the view across local pasture and woodland. There is wooden garden furniture and a BBQ and the garden is adjacent to plenty of parking spaces. The village of Hawkchurch is six miles inland from Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay, (of ‘Broadchurch’ fame), all of which are on the fabulous Jurassic coast. The village shop is run as a community venture, providing a full range of basic groceries and household goods. Adjacent to Bolthole cottage is The Old Inn, a traditional country pub, serving a large selection of ales as well as traditional country pub food. A hostelry has been on the site since 1543. The area around Hawkchurch offers fantastic walking opportunities with The Monarch’s Trail running past the front of the property and the ancient Iron-age hill forts of Lambert’s Castle and Pilsdon Pen close by in this East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Only a short drive away is Axminster, a lovely market town made famous by the well-known organic shop and canteen in the area, which were introduced by TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Nestled in outstanding peaceful countryside, Axminster is certainly a place to relax and unwind. Famous for its carpets, which are often likened to Turkish examples, it is one of Devon’s prettiest smaller towns. Situated on the River Axe and within easy reach of both the West Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coast, Axminster has many attractions, including plenty of privately owned shops, a weekly market and excellent old inns, with one dating back 100 years with its own resident ghost! With beautiful views on offer and the National Trust properties of Shute Barton and Loughwood Meeting House close by, Axminster is a must to visit. A lovely contemporary cottage, in an ideal location to explore some of the best of the West Country.
