About this property

Nestled close to the harbour in Port Isaac, on Cornwall’s north coast, The Pump is a pretty, whitewashed stone cottage. As its name suggests, The Pump was used as the old village pump right up until the 1950’s even after the mains water was installed, until it was finally sealed off in the early 1970’s. It has been renovated and decorated to a high standard but still retains plenty of charm and character from the exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and slate floor. Sleeping up to six guests in three double bedrooms with two bathrooms, The Pump is ideal for a family of a group of friends sharing. The open-plan living space has a modern kitchen equipped with all the amenities you could need for self-catering and a large dining table to comfortably seat six guests. The cosy sitting area is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a day of exploring the Cornish coast – especially when you light the woodburning stove and listen to the crackle of firewood. Upstairs you will find three bright and smartly decorated double bedrooms, all with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. The master bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room but there is also a family bathroom as well. The cottage is within walking distance of all shops, restaurants, and cafes in the village but if you don’t fancy eating out you can pop down to the fish market before returning to prepare fresh and tasty meals for a hungry crowd. Venture out on the coastal paths to take in the breathtaking scenery and coastline or wander down to Port Gaverne for a spot of wild swimming followed by hot chips and a drink in the Port Gaverne Inn. Adventure enthusiasts can try kayaking at Port Quin or surfing and water skiing around Polzeath and Newquay.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.

Everything was fab. We will be back. My only slight criticism and feedback is that we had to be out by 9:30am on a Sunday which we thought was a bit rushed and early!

This should have been picked up during cleaning. There was also a hole in the plaster by the log burner. I suggest that Bray should provide a list of minor defects prior to us accepting the property. We do not want to be held responsible for previous damage. Otherwise the property was in excellent condition for such an old building.

Having fallen in love with this cottage from the outside many years ago it was a joy to actually be able to stay there with my family. It did not disappoint. Beautifully and thoughtfully done. If I were to try and pick fault then the only thing I would have preferred would be for one of the rooms to be a twin rather than all doubles so that the children didn’t have to share a bed. Otherwise it was perfect and we shall definitely book again.
