Snaptrip says

The Hemmel in Oxfordshire offers a characterful and quirky stay with a great location and lovely village nearby. Guests appreciate the property's style, the cosy atmosphere, and the presence of a games room. While some guests encountered issues, others had a fantastic time and would recommend the property, highlighting the helpfulness of the owners and the property's suitability for both adults and children.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with some guests finding the property clean and tidy, while others reported issues such as cobwebs, dirty skirting boards, and unclean kitchen appliances. The presence of both positive and negative feedback suggests an average level of cleanliness with room for improvement.

The location is frequently praised for being ideal, quiet, and picturesque, with easy access to local attractions and the Cotswolds. The proximity to a lovely village and the availability of local amenities contribute to a high score in this category.

Comfort receives positive remarks for cosy and warm settings, comfortable beds, and a pleasant atmosphere. However, some guests mentioned issues with squeaky beds and uncomfortable seating, which suggests that while generally comfortable, there are aspects that could be enhanced.

Facilities have been noted as high-quality with thoughtful touches, but several reviews cite maintenance issues such as problematic showers, kitchen appliances, and garden furniture. The recurrence of these issues affects the score, indicating that while facilities are good, maintenance needs attention.

Guests have mentioned lovely touches such as bubbles and chocolate in the fridge, and smellies for the bath, which reflect thoughtfulness. However, as these gifts are not consistently reported and their provision cannot be guaranteed, the score reflects a positive but not universal experience.

About this property

Once again this owner has used her unique (and quirky!) style to create a stunning holiday property. This cottage really does have everything you could want or need. Located in a quiet corner of Oxfordshire and on the edge of a classic country village (Little Coxwell). The Hemmel, situated in the grounds of the owner's stunning farmhouse is filled with classic character - from the exposed beams and stone walls, to the original well (safely 'capped') located in the courtyard garden. The interior is cool and contemporary and provides luxurious accommodation: the twin bedroom and separate family shower room are simply but very tastefully presented. However, the standout feature in this lovely cottage has to be the master bedroom suite, where you can laze in the glorious roll top bath in the corner of the bedroom and admire the Oxfordshire countryside in the fields surrounding the cottage. The cottage represents the perfect choice for families or friends looking to get away from it all. On the doorstep you have wonderful walks, and a highly regarded pub serving terrific food in the village. If you prefer to prepare your own then you have 3 supermarkets less than 2 miles from the cottage. With Oxford about 25 mins drive away and the shoppers paradise of MacArthur Glen 30 mins away, you have got everything for a great break in a superb self catering home.

If additional accommodation is required, The Hemmel can be booked along with The Linhay (988824) to give enough space for 10 guests in 5 bedrooms.

This historic market town rests within the wonderful countryside of the Vale of White Horse in Oxfordshire. The Cotswolds lie to the north and the North Wessex Downs aonb to the south. Its characterful streets play host to a vast array of restaurants, shops and cafés making for delightful stop-off points during your visit. Also find Faringdon Folly, a striking tower surrounded by woodland, from which you can enjoy far-reaching views of the area nearby. Faringdon's Olf Town Hall is Grade II* listed. Buscot Park is home to an 18th century National Trust-owned mansion as well as some immaculate water gardens. Find the market town of Cirencester on the fringes of the Cotswolds, with the idyllic village of Bibury also close by, noted for its quaint cottages. Something different can be enjoyed in the city of Oxford, displaying many fine examples of dramatic architecture.

Had a lovely long weekend catching up with our son. The games room is a wonderful addition to the property.

The cooker main oven was inoperative. None of the Apple devices could log on to the internet, apart from a laptop running on Windows 11. A rubber non-slip matt in the shower and bath would be a nice safety feature. A visitors book where guests could write appropriate comments. Other than above, the cottage fixtures were of a high quality and the various soaps and lotions were a nice touch.

Wonderful walks for the dogs - they had a great time but we had to be very careful with them around the well and feel that a good safety feature would be a finer metal mesh on top of the existing safety bars as the well goes so far down. Lovely to have Waitrose and the characterful market town of Faringdon so near
