Woodland View in Shanklin offers a peaceful retreat with a well-laid-out, spacious property, boasting warmth and proximity to local attractions. While some guests have noted maintenance and cleaning issues, the overall experience is positive, with the house's location and layout being particularly praised.
Guests have reported some cleanliness issues, including mould, unpleasant odours, and a lack of thorough pre-cleaning. However, the property was also described as clean by some, indicating inconsistency in this area.
The location is highly praised for being quiet, secure, and within walking distance to Shanklin's attractions, including the beach, pubs, and restaurants.
The property is generally considered comfortable, with a good open plan layout and warm atmosphere. However, some guests found the beds too soft or thin, affecting the comfort score.
Facilities like the kitchen and dining areas are appreciated, but several guests have noted issues with appliances, such as a small fridge, a freezer needing defrosting, and a slow TV. Maintenance concerns slightly detract from the overall facilities rating.
There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.

We had a great visit to the Isle of Wight. The cottage was beautiful.

Woodland View has the potential to be an excellent cottage, however a lack of general maintenance and cleaning has let it down. We had a two week stay. The pros are: a good open plan layout on the ground floor for the Kitchen/dining room and lounge with comfortable leather sofas and a good size dining table that can comfortably seat 6 guests. The kitchen itself is well laid out. There are 3 available toilets, which is brilliant! One on each floor as this cottage has 3 levels. There is also a parking space to the side of the cottage and the front of the property looks out onto a quiet grassy park area and a cricket ground/pavilion and beyond up to the downes. The property is also nice and warm. The cons are: the fridge is small, under the counter, which has no lower fridge door bottle shelf, (due to a previous breakage) with no room to store your milk, juices, wine etc, this has to be put in the body of the fridge leaving little room for other food to be stored, with no salad draw space either. This has been an ongoing for at least the past 9 months, according to previous reviews. The freezer is also poor, mainly because it desperately needs defrosting, the bottom section of the freezer which is normally an additional space for ice blocks is literally a complete ice block. We contacted the owner who said it had been difficult to replace the door bottle shelf and said she would buy a new fridge and have it fitted while we were there, for 2 weeks. We agreed to this but the fitter wasn't available and the fridge not replaced. The radiator in the main bathroom is covered in rust and the window blind has mould on it and the shower head has black mould on it. The shower head in the ensuite on the second floor also has mold on it and scaled up and the base around the shower tray needs a good clean. The sky lights on the second floor seem to have mould on the windows but this is probably due to the windows not been opened and condensation causing damp. A couple of the towels smelt quite badly too, like they hadn't been dried properly. The washing machine also smelt, so we did a hot wash without clothes in it to give it a clean before using it. The TV in the lounge is very slow at responding, but fortunately we brought our apple tv box with us which resolved that. The mattresses in the bedroom with the single beds are very thin and our daughter said you could feel the metal base from the bed through it. So she moved to the double bed next door which was better. The level of pre cleaning before our stay also seemed minimal, the company we think was called "dust to shine". We left a message for the cleaners on the number provided, for black sacks, recycling bags and food waste bags and to ask about fresh towels and a change of bed linen for the second week, but we didn't hear back from them, so we provided our own bags for plastic and food recycling and washed the towels. We also did a fair bit of hoovering.
