Guests say

The Shepherd's Hut offers a peaceful and cosy retreat surrounded by beautiful countryside, perfect for those seeking relaxation and privacy. Guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped nature of the hut, as well as the friendly and helpful hosts. The location is ideal for dog owners and walkers, with scenic views and easy access to local amenities. While the presence of a second hut is occasionally noted, it rarely detracts from the tranquil experience. Overall, this property provides an excellent escape with thoughtful touches and a welcoming atmosphere.

Cleanliness is frequently highlighted, with guests describing the hut as 'super clean', 'very clean', and 'well maintained'. Only one minor mention of muddy floors due to weather, but this did not reflect on the hut's cleanliness itself.

The location is widely praised for its peaceful, rural setting, beautiful views, and proximity to local walks and the village. A few guests mention the field can be wet in winter and that a car is helpful for exploring further afield.

Guests consistently describe the hut as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a particularly comfy bed and effective heating. The compact space is well designed, and the peaceful surroundings add to the overall comfort.

The hut is described as extremely well equipped, with modern amenities such as a log burner, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and a well-stocked kitchen. Occasional minor suggestions (e.g., a floor mop) do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Guests appreciate the friendly, proactive hosts and mention thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack and advice on local walks. Please note that while some guests mention gifts or welcome packs, these are not guaranteed for every stay.

Herstmonceux is not only home to the hands-on Observatory Science Centre housed amongst the domes and telescopes of the former Royal Greenwich Observatory but there is also the magnificent Herstmonceux Castle with its Elizabethan gardens to wander around. The town also produces Henner’s medal-winning sparkling wine, and because Sussex has a sunny climate and chalky subsoil (the same as that in Champagne in France), the county also produces wonderful sparkling wines. To access your nearest beach, take a short car journey to Pevensey where the Romans landed, and you can tackle the beautiful 31-mile 1066 Country Walk which starts at Pevensey via Herstmonceux, and on to Battle and then the Cinque Port town of Rye. Golf and fishing lakes are close by. For a spot of sightseeing, you can take the train to London from Polegate. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub, and restaurant 1¼ miles.

This is one of the best stays I have had. The hut was clean and well maintained - set in a beautiful quiet field with sheep and a wooded area to look out on. The oweners were also friendly and caring. Would defiinitely recommend this and return again!

Very compact but ‘cosy’ and well equipped. Ideal location for many historical sites, a visit to Battle Abbey is highly recommended. Friendly and helpful host.
