The Old Thatch is a charming, characterful cottage praised for its cosy atmosphere, spacious and well-equipped kitchen, and large, secure garden ideal for dogs. Guests appreciate its convenient location for exploring the South Downs and nearby coast, as well as its peaceful ambience inside. While some mention minor cleanliness and maintenance issues, and note the property’s position on a busy bend, most found it comfortable and welcoming, with thoughtful touches from the owner. The cottage is especially enjoyed for relaxing breaks and family stays, offering a quintessential English experience.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, with fresh bedding and well-maintained gardens. However, several reviews mention issues such as crumbs, cobwebs, dog hair, and occasional lapses in cleaning standards. One guest reported a significant cleanliness problem, but this appears to be an isolated incident.
The location is convenient for exploring local attractions, shops, and the coast, and is appreciated for its proximity to amenities. However, the cottage is situated on a busy bend, making access by car challenging for some, and a few guests noted road noise and suburban surroundings.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, comfortable, and homely, with comfy beds and a peaceful atmosphere. The spacious kitchen and lounge are highlights, though a few mention the need for a more powerful shower and occasional dampness.
The cottage is well-equipped with modern appliances, a large kitchen, Smart TV, Wi-Fi, and a secure garden. Some guests noted minor maintenance issues, such as wardrobe doors and the shower, but overall facilities are praised for meeting self-catering needs and providing extras like board games and a playhouse.
Many guests appreciated welcome packs, festive decorations, and helpful touches from the owner. However, some noted that the welcome pack was more basic than expected or not as pictured. Please note that gifts or hampers are not guaranteed and may vary.
