There are 14 steps in the grounds and an unfenced pond, 50 yards away.. Moorhens is set within the grounds of the owners’ property which consist of 37½ acres with its own orchard. The stunning views over the countryside and the rural location mean that it is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy life. Whilst the gardens are shared with other properties on the owners’ grounds you are free to explore. Inside Moorhens there is everything you could need to enjoy your stay making it a home away from home. Fully equipped with a washer/dryer and a dishwasher, the kitchen provides you with everything for a hassle-free and easy holiday, while a table and chairs provide a relaxing dining area with views from the door over the countryside. An additional outdoor seating area also offers the perfect spot for al fresco dining or to relax with a glass of wine of the evening. Moorhens benefits from an air conditioning unit providing cool air in the summer but also heat in the winter providing comfort all year round. Velux windows in the sloped ceilings provide light along with a view of the starry sky at night. All on one level the bedroom and en-suite facilities with a walk-in shower provide the perfect place for relaxing after a long day of exploring.
Located in the heart of Sussex countryside the property is a short drive away from the village of Herstmonceux with local shops, restaurants and pub. Herstmonceux also boasts its own observatory and science centre along with Herstmonceux castle. Numerous walks around the locality offer a chance to explore the Sussex countryside however nearby towns such as Battle offer the historic Battle Abbey, the home of the Battle of Hastings, along with a range of independent shops and restaurants. Larger towns such as Hailsham offer access to larger high street stores within a short drive. If you fancy a trip to the coast, then why not visit Pevensey Bay or Eastbourne offering beautiful pebble beaches and a range of seaside attractions for a fun day out? Beach 8 miles.
Moorhens can be booked together with Chilsham Barn, Shepherd’s Hut at Calvesfield Shaw (UK11682) and Badgers (UK46750) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Good place to visit beautiful Sussex from, especially Gt. Dixter, Sissinghurst and Michelham Priory.Comfortable, clean and well equipped. Would have been good to have had better information about recycling and a long pole to lower/raise the blinds!
