For an unbeatable day out, head to Eastbourne, nestled at the foot of the South Downs National Park and famous ‘Seven Sisters’, and soak up the atmosphere in its vibrant 3 mile long promenade, picturesque beach and iconic Victorian pier. Just down the coast you’ll find the historic town of Hastings, where you can delve into the fascinating history of 1066 Battle of Hastings with a visit to the Battlefield and Abbey, or take a stroll along it's bustling high street. Head west along the coast recognised for it's stunning scenery including Beachy Head, Birling Gap and Cuckmere Haven and you'll arrive at the seaside town of Seaford, quietly nestled under the chalk landmark of Seaford Head.

An interesting 14 mile surfaced trail for walkers and cyclists, mainly traffic free, through the beautiful countryside along the old railway line linking Heathfield, Horam, Hailsham, Polegate and Hampden Park. There are benches, picnic tables and sculptures to look out for and lots of opportunities to pick up refreshments a short distance from the route.

The quaint village of Alfriston boasts chocolate-box-pretty pubs, boutique shops, medieval buildings and glorious countryside views. Take a stroll along the banks of the Cuckmere River while you're here. Closer to home you can explore 800 years of Sussex history at Michelham Priory and gardens, Abbots Wood nearby provides excellent walking routes and Wellshurst Golf Club is popular with golfers.
