    About this property

A lovely Grade II listed, 18th century quaker cottage in the lovely market town of Leek, within walking distance of the many restaurants, pubs and shops the town has to offer. This fabulous Leek cottage offers a very warm and cosy sitting room and a small but perfectly formed kitchen. The two bedrooms have bags of character, and are very comfortable. There is a fully-enclosed, sunny courtyard to the rear of this Leek cottage, with a seating area and barbecue. This Leek cottage is just perfect for a break full of all the activities the Peak District has to offer, such as Alton Towers, which is a 15 minute drive away, plentiful cycle routes, exciting climbing, historic halls, beautiful gardens and varied, wonderful walking.

The market town of Leek is situated on the western side of The Peak District National Park and is surrounded by lovely Moorland countryside. The town has a charming cobbled market place and there are many examples of fine Victorian architecture - a reminder of the town's prosperity when it was renowned as a silk manufacturing centre. Today Leek offers a wide selection of shops including vast antique emporiums, bookshops and galleries and there is good selection of restaurants and real ale pubs. Alton Towers is less than 15 minutes drive away.

    Mr Willcox ‐ 1 Jun 2018
"Several things did not work very well and the hot water was at a dangerous scalding temperature. The shower was impossible to use and could only be hand held anyway. The furniture, especially the sofas were not comfortable and my wife also found the bed mattress hard. We had chosen self catering as my wife has chronic back pain, with the view of it being more comfortable to sit in the evenings. Generally the furniture and fittings were poor, though the kitchen was new. We were also very careful on the steep, twisty stairs, as they had no bannister. However, the owner was kind to allow us to put stuff in the fridge in the morning before we took up residence as we had a tight schedule. Although the property was old, it was clean. We didn't think however that it was standards or should have been advertised with the difficulties such as the steep stairs and the small unmarked step out of the kitchen highlighted."

"Rather poor value for money on a number of counts, although reasonable for a few days only. Several things did not work very well and the hot water was at a dangerous scalding temperature. "Only downside is the lack of a proper shower but I knew that from the listing and can see there isn't really room for one."

"A wonderful warm and cosy cottage. We had a very warm welcome and everything was very clean an tidy."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Overton Bank. It's a delightful cottage suitable for a family. Clearly it is a small property but that is part of its charm and it has been cleverly fitted out to make maximum use of the space. Five of us stayed here (two adults, one teenager and two younger children) but the size of the cottage certainly wasn't an issue and we all loved the experience of staying in such an old and interesting cottage. Car parking was no problem and we were always able to park close to the cottage. It was very nice being able to walk everywhere and not having to use the car. We would definitely stay here again and are hoping to do so next year."

"We thoroughly enjoyed staying in such an old and interesting building. Although the cottage is small the space has been adapted thoughtfully and creatively, with the décor in keeping with this lovely old cottage. The owners have provided a selection of local history books that give a good background to Overton Bank and Leek as a whole. The cottage is ideally situated right in the centre of town, we really appreciated having shops, places to eat and walks in the park just a short distance away. We would definitely stay here again and hope to do so in the future."

"Very cosy cottage that is beautifully decorated and right in the centre of Leek. The owner went out of her way to take care of us and was very friendly. Lovely courtyard area, comfortable and cosy lounge and great for our little girl with lots of children's books."
    Mrs Clare Joghee, Royston,
"A great little cottage in a lovely market town location - right on the door step of all the shops and restaurants. Very convenient, stayed with our two year old and was really cosy and fun. The owner was really nice and super helpful. Well equipped kitchen that has everything you need. It is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail and lots of lovely local books and information guides to help you enjoy your stay. "

"Stayed for a week mid-March 2014, three adults. Cottage is in centre of the town with arts centre and market square < 200m away. We found footpaths North and west into the hills and ideal for cycling base. Excellent Wifi and Leek had at least 5 nice places to eat. 50 Mins from Manchester airport, 60 Minutes from Sheffield, 60 Minutes to Derby train station, so we were able to gather from all over the UK. Excellent base for a week in the Peaks."

"This cosy cottage was ideal for our needs, being centrally located in Leek on the edge of the Peak District. It was central yet quiet with a bijou garden ideal for a glass of wine in the late afternoon/early evening sun. It was very well centrally heated and with good all round facilities. Mind your head if you are over 5'6" though as the door heights are quite low! The only thing that we would have liked is a proper shower rather than the hand held one in the bathroom. Overall, it was excellent value for the price and we will definitely consider returning, despite generally usually choosing to stay in different places."

"Cosy cottage in a great location near the town center. Ideal size for our family of three and at a great price!"

"Beautiful, quaint cottage in the heart of Leek. Lovely holiday, fabulous scenery and lots to do in the area, only quibble cottage is very small."
    Mrs Franklin, Harlow, Essex
"The cottage was lovely, comfortable and very homely. The decor was fantastic and the property felt like a home-from-home."

"We had an excellent stay. There were shortbread biscuits, assorted teas, coffee, a pint of fresh milk...every comfort arranged for our arrival. It's a very quaint, fairly comfortable conversion - a tiny house but converted with taste and had everything we required for a comfortable week's stay. Access through the car park was really convenient, located extremely conveniently in beautiful Leek. Could do with more comfortable seats for family of four (with teens) and a frying pan, otherwise no complaints, it was a lovely base and we'd definitely consider staying there again if visiting. Not too far from alton Towers - beautiful drives both directions, perfect proximity for The Roaches...wonderful holiday, with property high on the list for it's success."
Mr Thomson, St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex
"Very warm and cosy cottage, and a great location, literally a couple of minutes walk into Leek town centre."
    Mr Jones, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
"Good location in a lovely market town and you can't beat the Peak District. The owner of the cottage was really helpful on the phone."
