The property is generally described as very clean and well maintained, though one review mentioned an issue with glass in the garden that required additional cleaning upon arrival.
The cottage is praised for its great location, offering easy access to local amenities and the Peak District. Some guests noted that a car is needed for most outings and Buxton is not within walking distance.
Guests found the house comfortable and warm, but some mentioned that the beds were too firm for their preference. Suggestions for mattress toppers were made to improve sleep quality.
The house is well equipped with modern amenities such as Alexa and games, and the garden is secure for dogs. Some minor suggestions were made for more child-friendly items and improved information about local transport.

Silkstone is an excellent base for touring The Peak District. Very central but you need a car to be able to go to most places. Buxton was not within walking distance and there was no where to eat out locally. Refurbished pub was due to open the week we were there but they were not geared up to serve food. There did appear to be a local bus service so it would have been handy to have bus time tables or details in the information pack which focused mainly on usage of kitchen equipment etc. rather than places to visit.

The house itself is very well equipped and in a great location for days out exploring the local area, unfortunately it’s let down by the letting agents. We arrived and retrieved the key with no issue and having travelled with 3 dogs let them into the back garden which is very secure, although needed to be mowed. My daughter immediately stepped on something sharp and upon inspection we realised it was a piece of glass. When we looked around there was lots of tiny pieces of glass where the glass on top of the table had shattered and someone had attempted to clear it up and left the glass in a yellow bucket. We spent the first hour sweeping outside to ensure we got the rest up so the dogs could use the garden. I thought I should let them know in case they thought we had broken it. The lady rather than asking if my daughter was ok, insisted there was no glass left and her and her husband had ensured they got it all up. The letting agent advised she would send the gardener the following day to come and mow and hoover the lawn and patio to try and clear the rest of the glass. This should have been done prior to our arrival as our stay was interrupted having to stay in the house with the dogs whilst the gardener did her thing. We continued with our holiday only to be called on Thursday to ask why we hadn’t vacated the property at 10am (my booking was until Friday) I explained this and she advised she had another booking tomorrow and we needed to leave today , in the mean time she was going to contact the owner. Now worried that I had made an error we started to head back only to be messaged again to advise her system was wrong. Again rather than apologise for causing unnecessary worry she sent a snap shot of her booking system to justify her actions. When we came to leave the cleaners were waiting at 9.50 which was a good job as we couldn’t open the key safe and managed to leave the keys with them. A real shame as these experiences ruined the stay we had booked for my mothers 70th birthday celebrations.

We had a lovely week at Silkstone Crescent. It is a lovely house in a great position. Very well equipped with lots of equipment but we have a few recommendations. In our opinion the beds, though large, were too hard. Some might prefer hard beds but we don't and had to put spare pillows underneath to get a good nights sleep. Hardly any unbreakable cups, plates etc for younger visitors and no stair gates. It could also do with a few homely touches. Don't get me wrong, a stay here will be very enjoyable but with a few minor tweaks, mattress toppers for one, it could go from 4 stars to 5.
