Continue onto Bakewell, where you can indulge in an original Bakewell Pudding, tour the Bakewell Old House Museum, sample local ales at the Thornbridge Brewery, or explore the esteemed sites of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall that rest on the outskirts of town. Further afield, you will find Matlock, where you can picnic in Hall Leys Park, hop aboard the Peak Railway, or embark up the nearby Heights of Abraham to experience the Great Rutland Cavern. All this and more awaits at Flat 1B.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.

The camera does lie! Flat 1b looked good, but sadly is not. The entrance doors are difficult. The bathroom is poor, and would benefit from a complete re design: walk in shower to replace the over high sided bath. Leaving room for a decent sized wash basin, as the existing item is ridiculous. The glass shower splash guard is fat too narrow. The instant water heater is set at 55C, but feels far to cold. The bed is too close to the radiator, making for poor access. The bedroom cupboard has no shelves for luggage, etc. for older users, the sofa is too low. The smart TV is too high on the wall and not easy to control when used to a basic model. There is hardly any kitchen work space. We are asked to leave the flat in a good clean condition, but there is no vacuum cleaner or even a broom! Normally owners leave paperwork re the operation of cookers, heaters, etc. but there was nothing! We had to park at the rear of the house which is in a poor condition with rubbish left about. A constant noise of running water was traced to two outside drains below the bedroom window. Some of the rubbish in that years was old carpet, which I used to cover the drains and reduce the noise which was keeping my wife awake. I could go on!

Near to Opera House, cafes, pubs, restaurants. Short walk to pavillion gardens and amenities. Good comfort in the flat. Extra storage space e.g. chest of drawers would be useful. Provision of ironing board and iron would be a bonus. Peaceful, quiet area.

In our opinion the shower needs larger screen, and basin in the bathroom far too small. We eat out during our stay, but kitchen definitely needs more work top space. Otherwise everything else worked well, and bed was comfortable.
