Located in a quiet backwater of the pretty Peak District village of Baslow, Little Hoot adjoins the owner’s home and comes complete with a superb walled roof terrace offering spectacular, breathtaking views of Chatsworth Estate and beyond. Perfect for those wanting to explore the local area on foot, there are gates from the roof terrace which lead directly to a mature woodland, with immediate walks leading to Chatsworth Park, Baslow Edge, Birchen Edge and Yeld Wood.
Baslow village itself is much sought after, being located on the doorstep of the magnificent Chatsworth Estate, and benefiting from a well-stocked village shop, tearooms, good local pubs serving food and even a Michelin starred restaurant. Set in the heart of the Peak District National Park, the village is surrounded by magnificent countryside, and other pretty unspoilt towns and villages. The fascinating ‘plague village’ of Eyam can be reached in around 10 minutes, as can the thriving market town of Bakewell. Matlock and Matlock Bath, with its cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham, are just 20 minutes away, and the spa town of Buxton 30 minutes. For thrill seekers, Britain’s premier theme park, Alton Towers can be reached in around 50 minutes. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Baslow is a lovely village, beautifully situated for exploring the Peak District, and we had a comfortable stay at Little Hoot. It is very quiet there, with wonderful views (not least of Chatsworth House, which is about 20 minutes walk from the village). Little Hoot is about 10 minutes walk from the village, but that is all downhill, so getting back might be an effort! Maybe be better to take the car! There is a village shop close by, so no need to go to the village for provisions. Your car has to be parked in the road outside Little Hoot, but that’s not a problem as it is a quiet cul-de-sac, but it’s relevant to mention that the drive is steep to walk up, and there are about 10 steps up into the property, which is an annex of the main house. A couple of recommendations - take a trip on the open top Peak Sightseer bus (from the village bus stop), and visit the National Tramway Museum at Matlock.

Little Hoot is a little gem in an ideal location for walks in and around Chatsworth.The cottage was clean ,comfortable and had all the amenities you would expect including suggested walks and local information.The hosts introduced themselves and were there if needed.Will definitely be returning.Perfect.
