There are also some wonderful walks to be had from the doorstep of your Derbyshire cottage. Explore the delightful small market town of Wirksworth, the National Stone Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail. Also within easy reach of your Peak District cottage are the country houses of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House and Alton Towers and Gulliver's Kingdom theme parks.

Thank you to the owners for accepting us at such short notice. The cottage was everything we could have wished for, comfortable, clean, and just beautiful. The kitchen was very well equipped and we even had a welcome bottle of wine which was a lovely touch. The cottage was in such a peaceful area, surrounded by sheep and cattle fields. The only visitor we had was Rufus the owners spaniel that liked to visit and play with our dog, such a lovely pup. Ate out a few local places, beautiful food all reasonably priced. Would highly recommended this cottage and hope to be back one day.

No local shops within 5 miles, great pubs for food short drive away and the closest EV charging in Ashbourne.Lanes from main road up to the cottage are a single car , but not busy. Lovely garden area, fabulous views over fields filled with sheep. A few negatives , no basic provisions ( a starter pack ie salt pepper , oil , hand wash would have been good ) . Cottage is very dark limited natural light , the shower is over the bath , the main double bed is against the wall which was awkward for one getting in and out , but overall , we really enjoyed our stay at Garden Cottage .

The only neighbours are the sheep, and we loved our daily visits from the owner's gorgeous Springer Spaniel. The views towards Carsington Water from the top of the hill are beautiful. It's an ideal base for exploring the Peak District, with easy access to attractions such as the Heights of Abraham, Bakewell and the Chee Dale stepping stones. A walk around Carsington Water is an absolute must. We had a wonderful stay.
