About this property

An impressive Grade II limestone cottage built in 1850, formerly part of the old fishing village, Westmorland Cottage is a beautiful holiday base for an escape with family or friends to the coast of Cumbria. A spacious cottage situated on the corner of Cart Lane and Carter Road, with gardens to the front and enclosed gardens to the rear, this property offers all you could want for a relaxing retreat. Park up on the off-road, graveled parking area, with enough space for three cars, and soak up the splendid scenery, which surrounds you; situated in an elevated position but close to the estuary with breath-taking views of the Howgills and Morecambe Bay in the Edwardian town of Grange-over-Sands on the edge of the beautiful Lake District. Venture inside to be met by the spacious hallway where you can take off your boots before discovering the beauty of the sitting room; light up the gas coal-effect fire and settle down in the contemporary seating arrangement whilst watching your favourite films on the Smart TV. Move through into the kitchen and take a seat at the breakfast table with a refreshing beverage in hand, your delicious dinner simmering on the traditional gas range cooker amidst the selection of other wonderful appliances, while you will find a fridge/freezer and convenient washing machine in the utility room. Make the most of the space within the formal dining room where you can enjoy your meal times or with a board game brought from home, or carry your conversation out into the impressive garden, the roof terrace making the perfect spot for soaking in the sun whilst enjoying the views of the Bay and the hills. Back inside, on the ground floor you will find a convenient wet room with a large walk-in shower, wonderfully placed for after a day spent exploring the Lake District National Park, while up on the first floor rests the family bathroom, where you can choose from both a bath and an overhead shower to begin each day. Seek out the three enticing bedrooms all offering their own wonderful views, made up of two king-size rooms and a twin, with each room boasting a homely interior and ample storage space for your personal belongings too. Step outside and begin your exploration of the local area at the end of Cart Lane, where just a few steps away is the start of the impressive Victorian Promenade leading you into heart of Grange-over-Sands where you will be pleased to find a charming atmosphere hosting a range of wonderful shops and eateries including pubs and restaurants, with a traditional fish and chip shop giving you a true taste of the coast. The bustling Edwardian resort town also boasts its very own railway station giving you easy access to the surrounding wonders of the area, with fantastic transport links to Furness Peninsula, Kendal, and Lancaster and further afield to Manchester and the West Coast mainline. The property benefits from being just a short drive to the M6 too, letting you explore the wider area at your own leisurely pace. Take a stroll from the cottage to the Kents Bank railway station passing the 15th century Guides Farm, where the Royal appointed Queen’s Guide across the Sands lives, making a wonderful walk across the sands for young and old alike. Venture into the depths of the Lake District National Park to indulge in a scenic experience like no other, with opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, watersports and so much more, or simply soak up the splendour of the sea views with a relaxing day at your perfect holiday home, Westmorland Cottage.

The placing of the cottage is ideal for exploring Grange, near the promenade for long leisurely dog walks.

Our dog dribbled some water on the kitchen floor which I wiped up with kitchen roll and the floor was really dirty. We had to clean the stairs up to the outside terrace which were fairly treacherous and we had to wipe the tables three times before they were clean. The garden was unusable as it was so overgrown but the was remedied on our last day. We went out for the day and couldn’t park our cars as the window cleaner had parked their van so we had to park on the very narrow road outside, couldn’t the window cleaner come when the cottage was empty? The dining table also had to be wiped before using. The cottage itself was lovely and the surroundings were gorgeous, it was lovely sat out on the terrace in the evenings, it was just a shame about the cleanliness.

Lovely view overlooking the sea, especially from the roof terrace. Owner on hand by email to make sure everything was OK, nothing too much trouble.
