Just outside the town is the wonderful estate of Cragside․ The former home of a Victorian inventor, this beautiful mansion was the first house to be lit by hydroelectricity along with the first proper installation of the electric lightbulb, with many ingenious gadgets to be seen around the house․ Several are still working and there are plenty of grounds to be explored. Spend a day making exotic friends at the Northumberland County Zoo, home to snow leopards, Canadian lynx, otters and arctic foxes! Just a stone's throw away is Cragside, the Victorian inventors house and the Northumberland Country Zoo.
