Slip off your shoes, curl up by the wood burner and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.
With access to fabulous country trails for walking, cycling and outdoor activities, Hillside Cottage is a real haven for nature lovers; the town of Haltwhistle is home to many rare flowers and plants including wild alpine plants not to be found anywhere else in the country. Known as the geographical centre of Britain, the town as a destination offers a great deal of things to do for all tastes and age groups, with so much to see and do right from the doorstep. Just three miles from the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, visit the roman forts of Housesteads and Vindolanda, or Chester’s. The surrounding landscape is stunning, enjoy a walk to Sycamore Gap and see the most photographed, iconic tree from the movie ‘Robin Hood’ or take a hike on the Pennine Way.
For younger families there is a nearby play park and in the summer months a heated open air swimming pool. For the teenagers and young of heart a day of action and adventure awaits at nearby Go Ape, Matfen - swing through the trees and fly down the zip wires while taking in some of the finest scenery in Northumberland. Nearby towns include Hexham, a popular, historic market town which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country, and an abundance of shops, restaurants and pubs. Why not visit the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge or its fort, browse its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, or take a stroll along the river? At the end of the day take a short stroll to one of the welcoming pubs, relax by an open fire with your favourite tipple or sample a selection of first rate dining experiences. My partner, dog and I had the most perfect few days away at Hillside Cottage. So much so we are already looking at booking again. They had put the Christmas decorations up so it was all very cosy when we arrived. It was ideal space for our dog who had plenty of space downstairs and the handy hose at the back of the property meant it easy to keep clean after many muddy walks! There are many walks in the area and we found the town of Haltwhistle very charming. The house itself was absolutely pristine and very well put together, we found we didnt need for anything! We managed to enjoy the hot tub on the rare dry day we had, and found it very private and relaxing. Any query we had was swiftly answered and there was a thoughtful basket of treats left on our arrival. Overall would recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing get away!

Beautiful cottage in Haltwhistle, which is a great base for exploring Northumberland and Cumbria. Stylishly furnished with comfort at heart. Extras like the welcome hamper was a lovely welcoming touch. Relaxing in the hot tub and a wonderfully comfortable bed is a dream after a day exploring all that the area has to offer. Gill was friendly and attentive before, throughout and after our stay. We had an amazing holiday and lived everything about Hillside Cottage. We will be back.

Beautiful home. We especially enjoyed the large lounge, master suite, and hot tub. The kitchen was well appointed, and we were even welcomed with a bottle of bubbles and some sweet treats! Great location near to town centre and a short drive from Hadrians Wall.
