About this property

Bamburgh 2.2 miles. Part of the contemporary stone-built Heather House development, Goosander is a wonderful Northumberland getaway for a family or group of adults. A stunning stone cottage allows you to unpack with ease from an off-road parking spot and welcomes you into a light and airy open-plan living area, where there is a fantastic stone feature wall housing a woodburning stove and wooden flooring stretching throughout. Here you will be able to curl up with a good book in one of the leather sofas or cook up a storm in the white wood panelled kitchen, where many amenities cater to your culinary needs, and you can enjoy your meal at the dining table, making this a fantastic social hub for all guests to enjoy, as well as allowing for easy access to the patio outside through glass doors. Four homely king-size bedrooms can be found throughout this property, each with their own character, tasteful storage and en-suite shower rooms, and one of the first-floor king-size bedrooms includes a wonderful balcony and one of the ground-floor bedrooms sports French windows. Outside, enjoy coffee in the sunshine on the patio, or there is the option of a sauna adding an air of opulence to your stay. The property rests in a hamlet in Budle Bay, where you will have access to the local spa and two lovely eateries, The Apple Inn and The Apple Core, as well as a fantastic sandy beach and coastal walks. Head a little further from the property to find Bamburgh where you can stock up on essentials and try out local produce at the deli, enjoy another sandy beach and visit the magnificent castle. From here you will be able to easily reach Holy Island, where there are many amazing sites to visit, including Lindisfarne Castle, Castle Point Lime Kilns and Lindisfarne Priory, as well as several museums, local shops, eateries and a sandy beach. Explore the coast of Northumberland with a stay at the beautiful Goosander.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

The dog treats were really appreciated by Ruby! Really, the only problem was with the sofas. They were very low and difficult to get out of, especially for those of us who are no longer young. They weren't really big enough for eight adults, so it would have been really good to have a separate armchair as well. Also, it would be an idea to point out that the pub, less than a mile away, as seen on the website, is actually seasonal and not open in the winter. We were sad about that. However we all had a great time, celebrating my birthday, so thank you.

Friends had a guide dog puppy in training and the enclosed area at the front was a haven for her. One electrical problem we had during our stay was quickly sorted in a friendly and efficient way. Particularly bad weather on our arrival day at 4.00.p.m. (1st Dec) in the dark. The paths and steps should have been heavily salted for our arrival as they were lethal and the same the following morning, which was when we became aware of a salt bin near the bin compound. The access road to the property extremely poor and full of large deep potholes, if nothing else please fill in the potholes. We were all delighted with the property and would hope to return in the future.
