Potters Pad is a beautifully presented apartment situated within the heart of the historic market town of Alnwick, packed with charming cobbled streets and historic buildings. Formerly a working malthouse, this unique building is steeped in history and has been converted into a collection of luxury apartments, which simply ooze charm and character.
Potters Pad is situated on the first floor which can be accessed via stairs or a fully operational lift if preferred. The living space is open plan and tastefully furnished throughout. There are two bedrooms making this quality property a suitable choice for couples, families or friends. Set all on one level, you enter the property into the hallway leading you straight through into the modern kitchen/dining/living room which includes everything needed to cook up meals for the whole family. From the living area you will have access to patio doors leading to the garden, perfect for al fresco dining on those gorgeous summer evenings. Across the hall you will find two double bedrooms and the bathroom. This stylish master bedroom occupies a kingsize bed with free standing wardrobes and a TV for those more relaxed nights in, a second bedroom occupies two single beds.
When you’re ready to begin exploring this historic town, begin with a trip to the incredible and famous Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK and used as Hogwarts when filming scenes for the Harry Potter films so it’s a must-visit for any fans, with Harry Potter related events organised here throughout the year as well as guided tours. The Alnwick Garden is also an exciting visit with its spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including the Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and largest tree house in Europe where guests can dine in the restaurant. Heading 4 miles east is the picture-perfect coastal village of Alnmouth where there is a gorgeous golden sandy beach.
A short drive west brings you to the small town of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside Hills and where the River Coquet ebbs and flows. Potters Pad makes an extremely comfortable base from which to explore the beautiful 20-mile stretch of Northumberland Heritage coastline, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east, and the wild and lonely expanses of the heather-capped Cheviot Hills to the west. Potter's Pad was very convenient to explore Alnwick and the surrounding countryside. It was clean and spacious and had a good range of equipment - however - the bed was uncomfortable as was the sofa. The welcome pack was excellent if you happened to have a canine friend with you. If you're human it was far less inspiring - no milk and out of date biscuits.

I reviewed this apartment 12 months ago when I was critical of the bed and the plumbing but the positives outweighed those shortcomings and would not deter us from returning. Sadly those shortcomings have not been addressed and the bed creaks more than ever as has been pointed out by other guests. The kitchen sink on this visit smelled lavatorial which I resolved with boiling water and bleach. We had occasion to move the sofa and wish we hadn't, the detritus underneath suggested that it had not been moved in quite some time. The apartment is generally well equipped but I didn't expect to have to buy loo roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid or indeed wine glasses. The one glass that I recognised as a wine glass was utilitarian and looked as though it had been liberated from a local pub.The owners are either penny pinching or being short changed by their housekeeping team. We won't be returning again which is sad because this could be really nice.

On the whole the property was clean but there is room for improvement, the seal between the bath and shower screen needs a deep clean or replacement. The shower mat needs replacement. The cleaning staff need to check the saucepans as we had to wash them prior to use they were dirty. The outside area needs sweeping and jet washing and the pots needed weeding. The accommodation was excellently situated close to all amenities and the parking was excellent. Thank you.
