The forest has way-marked walks, cycle ways and a visitor centre, whilst the Durham Dales has a plethora of beautiful scenery, including High Force in Upper Teesdale with its 70ft waterfall. 

The university city of Durham, 14 miles away, stands on the River Wear, with its Romanesque cathedral, Norman castle, cobbled streets and independent shops. 

No trip to Durham would be complete with a visit to the Beamish Living Museum of the . . .
