It's a history buff's dream come true, with the ruins of a Norman Chapel turned into a fortified mansion and an array of English Heritage sites nearby. It also has a variety of activities to enjoy during your visit, such as a tennis club for an afternoon of sport, Afternoon Tea at The Kings Head Hotel, or a countryside pub lunch in the midst of breath-taking landscape.     Although on a B road, the insulation is so good that we hardly heard the traffic. Reversing into the parking space is a challenge, but there is the option of parking further up the road.

    We had a great stay and visited several National Trust Houses and two railways during our visit. The cottage garden was very nice and although the weather was mixed we took several walks into the garden. The drive way is narrow but we managed to reverse park. We did wonder if it might be possible for a mirror to be mounted on the wall opposite the cottage so that oncoming traffic could be seen.

    We felt very comfortable. Stacey the housekeeper was excellent via text messages. The driveway and double blind bend were obviously difficult, but there is nothing can do about that. The cottage garden must be so difficult to keep on top of, but it would be fine to lock it off if you wished, as the courtyard is adequate and catches the afternoon son nicely.
