Guests say

Underhowe is a well-appointed cottage in Grasmere, praised for its central location, comfortable furnishings, and modern amenities. Guests appreciate the property's peacefulness, garden space, and suitability for family stays. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness oversights are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests willing to return.

The property generally meets cleanliness standards, but there are instances of dust, cobwebs, and a few reports of insufficient deep cleaning. Some guests performed additional cleaning for comfort, suggesting room for improvement.

The cottage's location is highly praised for its centrality in Grasmere, proximity to shops, pubs, and walking routes. Its quiet and private setting is also appreciated, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.

Guests find the property comfortable, with well-equipped kitchens and cosy bedrooms. However, some mention issues with heating regulation and worn sofas, indicating that while comfort is generally high, there are areas that could be enhanced.

Facilities are considered fantastic and well-appointed, but there are comments on the complexity of light switches, lack of trays, and specific maintenance needs like leaky taps and shower temperature control, suggesting that while facilities are good, attention to maintenance would improve the score.

Guests mention welcome packs with chocolates, coffee, tea, milk, and biscuits, which are well-received. However, as these gifts are not consistently referenced and not guaranteed, the score reflects the positive impact when provided, but acknowledges variability.

Underhowe is an exceptional contemporary property located just a minutes walk from the centre of the popular village of Grasmere in the heart of the Lakes. Presented to a very high standard, this welcoming home, embraces all the latest technology whilst retaining character and charm.

The living accommodation is arranged across the ground floor with a cosy and welcoming sitting room with comfortable sofas arranged around the log burning stove and TV and a comfortable TV lounge with large screen TV and large floor top ceiling windows that open to the patio garden beyond. The smart kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances and social breakfast bar. In the centre of the house is the smart dining room, ideal for celebration dinners. Chose from three king size bedrooms each with superb ensuite shower room, whilst the final bedroom is presented with bunk beds and is complemented by the family bathroom just along the landing.

Outside there is a patio garden with outdoor dining furniture and to the front of the cottage there is private parking for three cars.

Grasmere is one of the prettiest and certainly the most famous of all the Lake District villages, sitting on the side of the lake that shares its name and surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. The village offers a great range of local shops and places to eat from welcoming tea rooms, cosy country pubs and fine dining. There is and endless choice of walks of all standard from the village as well as a choice of routes for those on two wheels for both mountain bikes and road bikes.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

The property is in an excellent location in the village, with Restaurants, Bars, Shops all in the village. The property was very well equipped, and very comfortable. However we did have issues with the heating and had to call Lake Lovers, who dealt with the issue immediately, it remained very difficult to regulate and keep at a normal temperature. We really enjoyed our stay and will return

Attention to detail on a couple of things. Complimentary Shower gel etc were empty, shower basket fell off the wall in 1 ensuite, skirting boards needed cleaning and dust in corners of ceiling. I live in a house built in the 1800's so am familiar. Herdy mugs needed bleaching. Some very stained and Dwasher did not remove stains. Kitchen clock needs a new battery. Tiny things but worth noting. Perfect for my birthday get away. Lewis restaurant was first class.

This is the 3rd time we stayed and would recommend it. Some improvements since last time - more utensils, including children cutlery, a welcome pack of chocolates, coffee, tea, milk & biscuits very welcome. Plus bin bags & dishwasher tablets coop in Grasmere is well stocked. heating is easy to use & water always warm. The coffee machine is nespresso & uses the original pods. Lakelovers didn’t know when I asked pre visit so letting others know. House is in a perfect location. Would recommend cafe grand @ grand hotel, Lewis bistro for dinner both in walking distance. House is great for multi generational families with 2 good size living rooms. Well decorated and nice to have the garden & courtyard outside too.
