Guests park on the quiet lane outside Damson Cottage and enter the property into a hall off which is the house bathroom with toilet, basin and bath. From the pretty double bedroom, French doors open onto a space at the rear of the property. The generous sitting room is on the first floor, enjoying lovely views from its large windows. A feature fireplace and exposed stone wall bring a cosy feel to this room, making a nap on the comfy sofa and chairs hard to resist. The kitchen is well-equipped with dining area close by.

Crook itself was once home to the area’s mill workers, and many of the 17th century cottages still stand. In spring, the nearby Lyth Valley is filled with damson blossom and trying the damson jams, chutneys and gin is a must. The market town of Kendal is well worth a visit as is its independent cinema and theatre at The Brewery Arts Centre.
