Dating back to the 1600s and once part of a yeoman’s house, the gorgeous stone holiday home has been creatively refurbished to offer comfortable accommodation with an abundance of original charm. From here, make excursions to Lake Bassenthwaite, 4 miles away, and Derwentwater, 11 miles away. Return to soak up the sunshine and the Lakeland scenery from the privacy of the pretty cottage garden.

Wander through the porch and into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which is toasty in the winter thanks to the oil-fired Aga. Settle in here to take in the fabulous views; you’ll have a Smart TV with Sky Q so you can watch films together too. Prepare romantic meals in the kitchen area, where you’ll have a dishwasher, plus a washing machine and a tumble dryer. Venture up the cottage-style staircase when it is time to take yourselves off to bed. Choose from a king-size bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, or on the mezzanine floor above, an additional single bed and reading area. Gaze out towards the mountains from the garden on sunny days and have a cocktail out here as the sun goes down. There is parking for two cars at the cottage.

While away a few hours in Cockermouth, browsing in the shops, visiting Wordsworth House and Gardens, and exploring the castle. Have a day out in Keswick, 11 miles away, where you can take a launch out on Derwentwater, have a go at paddleboarding or canoeing, and book tickets to a show at the Theatre on the Lake.
