Fairholme sits above Comb Beck on the slopes of Whinlatter Forest, in the little known hamlet of Seldom Seen and adjoining the village of Thornthwaite. Fairholme is the end cottage of a small terrace of properties which were converted from a former water driven saw mill dating back to the 1700’s. This is a truly tranquil location for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, yet is less than 4 miles from a great range of amenities and visitor attractions in Keswick, and 1½ miles from Braithwaite, which has a village shop, pubs and restaurants. A gallery and tea room can also be found 100 yards from the property. The Whinlatter Visitor Centre, in England’s only true mountain forest, is the hub for many activities, including the Whinlatter Wildplay trail designed for children, the longest mountain bike trail in England, forest walks and an osprey viewing point. It also boasts an information centre, forest shop and café. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Lovely stay. Views from every room are amazing. Convenient for local buses. Overall, cottage felt a little tired and could do with a bit of TLC. Would certainly recommend and use again.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Fairhome cottage. We loved the very peaceful location, the walks into the forest starting almost right from the front door, the beautiful countryside around and the convenience of Keswick nearby for any shopping. Even the design of the cottage added to the peace with the bedrooms not sharing a party wall with any of the other cottages in the terrace, all much appreciated. We will definitely come back.
