Guests say
Barleycorn Cottage in Keswick is praised for its excellent location, spacious and secure garden, and proximity to local attractions and walks. Many guests found it comfortable and well-equipped, making it ideal for families and those with dogs. While several visitors enjoyed repeat stays, some noted that cleanliness and attention to detail have declined in recent years. Parking can be challenging, and a few guests mentioned a lack of welcome information and minor maintenance issues. Overall, the cottage offers a pleasant base for exploring Keswick and the Lake District.
Cleanliness is a recurring concern, with multiple guests reporting issues such as dust, unwashed kitchenware, mould in the bathroom, and hair on carpets and in the bath. Some guests found the property clean, but the majority of recent reviews highlight a need for a deep clean and improved attention to detail.
The location is consistently praised, with guests appreciating the proximity to Keswick town centre, Fitz Park, and local walks. The setting is described as perfect for exploring the area, with everything within walking distance.
Most guests found the cottage comfortable, with warm rooms, cosy living areas, and comfortable beds. However, a few mentioned issues such as an old mattress, lack of mirrors, and a tired feel in some areas.
Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and a large, enclosed garden. Some guests noted maintenance issues such as a broken fridge, stiff door handles, and lack of secure garden gates. Parking can be difficult at times.
Several guests mentioned a lack of welcome packs, local information, and thoughtful touches such as milk or birthday surprises. While some properties offer gifts or special arrangements, these are not guaranteed at Barleycorn Cottage.

Holiday spoilt by unclean property, which we had to clean as best we could.(Vacumn cleaner was so full it would not pick up, and was stinking). All carpets full of hair, the whole cottage is in need of a severe deep clean. We are in the process of complaing in full to your local office.

This is our 5th time at Barleycorn. We love its position near the park and railway walk. Only 5minutes walk into Keswick for shops, market, pubs and coffee shops. The cottage has always been clean and comfortable. On cooler days it only takes 1/2 hour of the heating being on for it to be toasty warm. The garden is a sun trap on sunny days and watching the rabbits is great fun. We hope to be back next year.
