Please note: The property has a natural water supply.. Overwater Lodge was built at the turn of the 20th century as one of a pair of cottages for Overwater Hall. This three bedroomed semi-detached cottage has so much to offer as a delightful holiday retreat. With stunning views towards Skiddaw from most rooms, large south facing cottage garden and adjoining woodland. Overwater Lodge is perfect for adults and children alike, with space to relax and play.Situated 3 miles north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, the area is perfect for walking, cycling and relaxing. The Reiver cycleway passes the cottage. Two bridleways lead alongside to Binsey Fell, Skiddaw and the Cumbrian Way. Overwater tarn is just a 2-minute walk.
Within half an hours walk from Overwater Lodge there is the Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite village and Mae’s Tearoom and Gallery in Uldale serving good food. Overwater Hall Hotel with its first class restaurant (serving coffee, light lunches, teas and dinners) is a 2-minute walk.With an abundance of bird life, the occasional red squirrel and deer, Overwater Lodge enjoys a truly tranquil location.Nearby there is sailing on Bassenthwaite Lake, Lake District Wildlife Park, Mirehouse Historic House Gardens and Osprey viewpoint. The Castle Inn Hotel and Armathwaite Hall Hotel are within 3 miles and between them offer spa treatments, spa days and outdoor pursuit activities, such as clay pigeon shooting and quad biking. Nearby Whinlatter Forest offers several trails and the Go Ape experience. Overwater Lodge is also just 5 minutes drive from The Lakes Distillery. Also nearby is Bassenthwaite Station, set in two old railway carriages, on the west side of Bassenthwaite Lake for breakfasts, lunches and teas.

We had a lovely stay at Overwater Lodge . Location and views from the property were 2nd to non and the cottage is really lovely, with a homely feel. We were there with my in-laws. Guests may find it useful to note however, that while the downstairs loo is conveniently just next to the bedroom, it is under the stairs and is 'cosy' with a small cloakroom sized sink The downstairs shower room is a standard size shower cubicle but its in the utility room, so you have to walk through the living room and kitchen to get to it, this wasn't a problem for us but some may not find it ideal - nipping through in your towel is possibly why some have complained about this. . The house is on a borehole water supply which was fine, but a couple of late evenings, we did get brown water so maybe have some bottled water on standby just incase, not a complaint, its part of countryside living. Generally, although we loved the house, we had mixed feelings about it, we loved the location, overall feel of the house and its history & character. We didn't expect perfection, but there are one or two things that would benefit from some attention... its cupboards are very full & cluttered and there is literally nowhere to store food other than the 2 fridges, every shelf was full. The maintenance of fixtures and fittings needs some attention bathroom lights not all working and the 1 that does is not bright enough, loose kickboards, wobbly light fittings, broken window catch n bedroom, a crack in the bathroom window sill taped over, (source of the flies?), perished curtain hooks etc, there is a freezer but the cupboard is so full its hard to open. Nothing major but did let a beautiful house down. One sofa is very uncomfortable, the other two are great. The fire and wood supply is fabulous. The woods were closed off during our stay, presumably for our safety which we are grateful for, but disappointed our boys. These things wouldn't stop me staying again, but its 4 stars and I suppose I expected a little more attention to detail.

A lovely cottage in a lovely setting with the most amazing views. Very quiet and peaceful, the internet connection wasn't great but to be honest it makes you sit and relax for a change and take in your surroundings, even our kids (16) and (23) weren't too bothered and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Cottage has everything you need for your stay and not too far from amenities.Would definitely think about booking again

Brought my mother in law here for her 80th birthday.Holiday was great at overwater lodge, the location way a little way out, about 20-30 minutes drive from everything but again this wasn’t a problem. The lodge its self and location was amazing even tho it was far out the views were stunning. A little disappointed that the fan oven wasn’t working so had to drive out every night to eat. Only down side I found was the hot tap in the kitchen didn’t work and the last day of the holiday there was mouse droppings around the living room
