Alford is a charming market town in Lincolnshire. It is set just outside of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty about 11 miles north-west of the Skegness. There is a wide range of shops including a pharmacy, grocers and two butchers as well as a large shop which specialises in dolls houses. Alford has become an important centre for arts and crafts with many markets held throughout the year. Alford is known for its Grade 1 listed working windmill, which is used commercially to produce stone-ground organic flour. Alford Manor House is a central point in the town, with its exhibitions and museum as well as a tea room and open gardens. With Alford being set in the Lincolnshire Wolds, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes to follow or even take a trip to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway or Claythorpe Watermill and Wildfowl Gardens, where you will find plenty of birds and animals, with plenty of space to sit and relax with great views of the old mill. The owners were very welcoming they had left us a breakfast pack in the fridge of sausage and bacon, with milk, eggs and teabags. The food in the railway tavern close by was excellent, home cooked with fresh vegetables available. We loved the friendliness of the landlords Dawn and Keith. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The cottage was cleaned to a high standard and had everything needed we needed for a comfortable stay.

Perfect for exploring Lincolnshire. Beautiful food at The Railway Tavern and most welcoming hosts. What more could you want.
Annie
