About this property

Nestled in the charming village of Mickleton, amidst the sweeping countryside of the Durham dales, is Swallows Barn. This stone-built cottage is on a quiet country lane, with off-road parking for one car in the shared courtyard. Park up safely and feel immediately at ease at this lovely getaway, perfect for families and friends alike. You are welcomed by a country-style kitchen, fully fitted with everything you might need during your stay, including a breakfast table at which you can enjoy a read of the newspaper with your morning cup of coffee. Rustle up a delicious meal after exploring the Pennine Way and gather around the more formal dining table, before heading through to the sitting room. Cold, winter evenings welcome the warmth of the woodburner, whilst the character features and light décor uplift your mood. Climb the stairs at the end of an adventurous day and sink into bed; you have four well-presented bedrooms to choose, with exposed beams and original characteristics. There is a master bedroom with a king-size bed resting at the top of its own staircase, boasting an en-suite. There is one further double, a single with a pull-out transforming it into a double and a single room, handy for those travelling with children. Outside you can make the most of the south-facing patio in the shared courtyard, for alfresco dining on a summer's afternoon. Head into Mickleton for a drink at one of two pubs, one of which serves food if you fancy taking a night off from cooking. Enjoy a trip out to explore the wider region of Durham or stay close by and head to the historic town of Barnard Castle. With a wealth of beautiful walks to choose from right on the doorstep as well as many cycling routes, this base makes the ideal retreat for you.

Mickleton is situated in the heart of Teesdale, close to the villages of Romaldkirk and Middleton-in-Teesdale. Mickleton harbours a cluster of stone houses along a single street with two pubs, one serving excellent food. The Pennine and Teesdale Ways are right on the doorstep providing lots of walking opportunities. There are also excellent cycling facilities in the dale and Hamsterley Forest.
