"Had nice holiday with family and friends Kids had a great time in the house Would recommend for a relaxing break."

"Our family party of 8 had a very enjoyable time in this well-maintained private cottage. Barbeque pagoda, hot tub and games room were a big hit. It was very reassuring that the owner took such a personal interest in our comfort. We would happily book again."

"This was an amazing holiday venue. Beautiful in every respect. I wouldnt stay there again, but only because it wasn't ideal for my disability. But I'd recommend it to others."

"The hot tub filter was disgusting and not filtering it was filthy and bits floating after one day had to clean filter from hot tub in the shower myself you could tell had not been replaced in a very long time. It was supposed to be sucluded but there was 2 cottages very close almost in the garden. Landlord son was friendly but didnt know when to leave."

"Lovely sized house with good features, the unconventional layout adds to the charm.Great for large groups with games room, good sized garden, BBQ and hot tub. We were a family group with mixed ages and all found something to enjoy.Only draw back for us was the total isolation, there is nothing in walking distance and frankly you wouldn't want to be walking down the local roads anyway as they are extremely narrow with very little visibility. If you want quiet, this is the place to be!"

"On entering the cottage, I wasn't too happy. The cottage looked old and jaded. However, it grows on you and the first impressions forgotten. The owner was helpful and showed us around, only to find that the house is like a maze! The lounge is spacious and well appointed. The dinning hall has two dinning tables and also a bench to look outside the window which gives the view of the fields. The kitchen has all the equipments necessary. However, it can be a lot cleaner. We made sure that we washed all items before using them. Wasn't too thrilled about this. The bedrooms are clean with neat duvets, sheets and other linen. The bathrooms do the job but the locks on the door don't work. Kinda tricky if you are going in a big group. The garden behind the cottage is large and has a place for BBQ. The hot tub is excellent and a good place to chill out. The front of the cottage also has a huge place where kids can run around. The cottage is located in a quiet place and overlooks green beautiful fields! The games room does the job. You can spend a few hours here. If we overlook the cleanliness aspect in the kitchen, this place great to stay. Great location, large enough for big groups and you can relax full on. You don't need to go out to do anything if you take with you some board games, cards, etc. I'd recommend the place to all."

"West Ashridge turned out to be an excellent centre for our family celebration, involving three generations. The house is well set up for young children and the bedrooms are big enough to cater for a variety of sleeping arrangements. We particularly liked the extras in the garden which comprised a hot-tub (well maintained throughout the week by the owners), which was a great hit whatever the weather. Also in the garden is an excellent barbeque hut - though you have to be very careful with the young ones when this is alight. There is even a Wendy House. For a house of that size the kitchen is a little small, though it's well equipped, and there was no wi-fi in the area which was a disappointment. All in all a super base for the week and the coast around Bideford is lovely."

"West Ashridge was fantastic and the best cottage we have stayed in as this is our 6th cottage..jeremy the Owner was very welcoming and the cottage is a gem.I would reccomend this cottage to anyone and will definatley be back"

"A wonderful cottage with great facilities. We would definitely stay here again!"
    Jim
"The setting is great and the facilities (hot tub, covered BBQ and games room) really added to the enjoyment. The layout of the rooms takes a little getting used to but we soon found our way around. If I had to make a suggestion I would say add lamp shades to the (many) wall lights: energy saving light bulbs on their own make for a somewhat spartan ambiance."

"Nice isolated farmhouse complex with a large games room to tuck the grandchildren away safely. Good facilities. Local attractions are plentiful and Bideford fine for shopping. We had a great time. A must do is the Tarka Trail - take bikes if you have them otherwise hire on the trail. We would happily recommend."

"We were a party of 10 with grandparents parents and children. We found the cottage to have lots of charm and character. The kids really enjoyed the freedom that we were happy to give them as there is no main road nearby. The cottage had all the required utensils, cooking and cleaning things that we needed. It had plenty of room and enough showers to go round for the morning rush to get ready. We used the property mainly for sleeping in as we were out every day and for our purposes it served us well. This is a very first world problem but if there was one improvement for us it would have been for the property to have a wifi connection, however the fact that it hadn't got one would be ideal for some. The location is great, nestled in the farmland just outside Bideford it is very quiet and peaceful."

"Fine place - coped with 11 people plus two babies easily - plenty of space in all rooms. Lovely views and summer house/ barbeque. pity the garden is such a steep hill! Slight problem is need to driver almost everywhere and the local beaches are not the best although we thoroughly enjoyed the whole stay. Owner helpful and not "over- present" - just right....."

"Very secluded location and lovely scenery. Very clean and tidy with welcoming owner. Downstairs bedroom was constantly damp so cloths hanging in wardrobe were damp when putting on. Otherwise a lovely place to stay"

"We had an excellent family weekend away at West Ashridge. The cottage was great, plenty of space and well equipped, and we made excellent use of the games room, hot tub and BBQ which all kept us entertained.Whilst we didn't see much of the local area we went slightly further afield to Woolacombe beach and had an excellent meal at The Masons Arms at Knowstone.Everyone left the property happy and there were musings about another visit in the future."

"The cottage was the perfect choice for the family to enjoy the chance to all be together. All the grandchildren loved it. Plenty of space inside to either do things together or have Your own space. The hot tub was a big hit and everyone used it. Also the outdoor barbecue building which was used extensively. The bedrooms and the bath/shower rooms were well-appointed and meant we all could shower without having long waits. A location and property we would not hesitate to recommend. The perfect place to unwind. The games room was a big hit with our four grandsons."

"Great cottage!!! Stayed for one week with family and friends. 2 large reception rooms, private garden with jacuzzi and barbecue cabin. Well looked after, warm and comfy house. Great for kids as plenty of space to play. "

"The location was superb, being up a private road meant we were able to let the 6 and 7 year old cousins go exploring outside without constant adult supervision which they loved. All the children adored the hot tub inspite of the autumnal weather! The indoor barbeque was a great success. The owner was extrememly helpful and courteous throughout our stay."

"We were a group of friends staying at the cottage for 1 weekend. The cottage itself is stunning and the views and surrounding area are perfect. The hot tub was lovely and the outdoor BBQ was fab. We were greeted by Roy, who spent at least 40 minutes showing us around the cottage, which was fine, we expected this as we had seen other reviews. We were given instructions on how to use everything including putting more chlorine in the hot tub when we had finished using it that evening. The cottage itself could do with a really good clean, whilst it wasn't grubby, things like hovering under the beds and sofa's , the cutlery draw was full of bits, the games room had a large amount of cobwebs and dead spiders and flies in it. At the end of the first evening, we topped up the hot tub with chlorine, as instructed. However the next morning, Roy (who lives an hour away!) let himself into the back garden and topped it up with more chlorine! We therefore didn't risk using the hot tub until later that afternoon. Later that evening (the Saturday...and our last night at the cottage) Roy tuned up again and rang the doorbell, to advise us that we had left the air hockey table on the day before, that the hot tub was being used by too many people and asked us to "keep the boys in check". We all found him rather intrusive. Before the regular checking up visits by Roy, a few of us had intended to return to the cottage with our children, however due to the intrusive nature of the owner, we have decided against it,. It's a shame because it really is a lovely place and with a good clean and some privacy it would have been perfect. There are also 3 cottages for couples very close to this large cottage, which the details do not mention. I assume they have shared use of the games room (which is located in a separate building and not in the cottage itself) as there was no key for the door. Also the boiler wasn't working when we were there so there was no hot water available in the downstairs bathroom or any of the taps. In fairness, we didn't phone the owner to tell him as we didn't want to have any more of our short time at the cottage used up so the 8 of us showered using the 2 upstairs electric showers."
    Debbie
"Really great location, lovely building and owner very informative. One of the negatives was, unfortunately the downstairs bedroom smells very damp and we had to stop using it as it make one of our party ill. We also felt the house needed a good deep clean (under the beds especially) and new carpets laid."
    Paul
"Excellent facilities for children, plus hot tub, plus spacious accomodation means little people can be amused on rainy days. Well located for visiting a wide range of attractions, plus a good pub at which to eat in Littleham. Lots of little notes around the property re do's and dont's would be better incorporated into one guide. Also, a visitors book (if there was one we could not find it) is useful since it allows previous occupants to leave comments (both good and bad) on places which they have visited, and where they have eaten. We would certainly visit again."

"We had 2 small children and two older ones and despite the weather they had a superb time as there is plenty to do and they are perfectly safe. The hot tub was a great favourite as was the covered barbecue which meant that even on a cold evening we could eat outside and be warm too.The accommodation is plenty big enough for 10, very clean and comfortable. The owner went to no end of trouble to see that we had a good stay and we can all highly recommend this house. June 2012. "

"We had a fantastic time, the accommodation was much better than we expected and the outdoor Hot Tub was the highlight of our trip. Barbecue hut and the games room were also excellent and well maintained. Lastly the welcome Érand local knowledge from the owner (Roy) was really appreciated. Oct 2011. "

"Good central location for touring. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful hot tub which had only just been installed. The indoor bbq hut was a big success with the male chefs in our party. Overall a thoroughly good time was had by all, many thanks to Mr Parsons for making us so welcome. Aug 2011."

"The property was fantastic value for money. There where 11 of us and I felt the rooms had ample space for all and most included a sink. They had 3 showers, 4 bathrooms. All bathrooms had been recently renovated and where in excellent condition. The water was hot and we all managed to get up and about with little difficulty. The games room was a lot better then imagined and the facilities where really good. Having the heaters was a good idea when it got a bit chilli in the later part of the evening. The outdoor BBQ was like nothing we have seen before and everyone was really impressed. The space and scenery both in and outside the house was really great. If you are looking for somewhere to take a family or a large group then this is ideal and close enough to the beach and local towns. March 2011."

"The cottage was set in beautiful surroundings with great views. I liked the fact that it really was out in the sticks. The inside was nicely furnished and very spacious. We were a party of 4 adults and 5 children and there was still loads of room. The games room was great for the children. A real back to basics trip. The outside b.b.q was a really good feature. Roy the owner was there to meet us when we arrived and was very nice and helpful. Feb 2011."

"The accommodation at this property was exactly what we needed for our large party. The house was lovely and warm for mid November. We made use of the excellent facilities like the BBQ hut (the first BBQ we have been able to have in November!) the views from the house were spectacular. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking to get away with a large group of people. The owner gave us a warm reception and guided tour when we arrived and also some useful local information which was great for our trip. Nov 2010."

"A lovely spacious, comfortable, peaceful and accommodating property with many interesting features and lots of character and although the kitchen is compact it was very clean and adequately equipped. The wonderfully unique and practical all weather B.B.Q. proved to be a great novelty and was even used for breakfast one morning! The owner was very helpful, thoughtful and kind and the pub in the nearby village of Littleham proved to be excellent. We would have no hesitation in booking this property again. July 2010."
