… a mile from Wilmington, hidden in flower-filled lanes, two semi-detached, single-storey cottages converted from barns across the lane from the friendly owners’ farmhouse. You are welcome to walk the 10 acres of surrounding heath and woodland and enjoy the wildlife (excellent birdwatching). Walks are cut through the organic wildflower meadows (picnic tables) and ancient cider orchard, and a footpath meanders beside the river to Cotleigh. The cottages are smart and modern with high ceilings and Velux windows, some original beams and oak floors. Each has a suntrap deck behind for enjoying peaceful valley views and soothing birdsong. Below (8 steps down), a shared lawn (barbecues). At the front, shared gravelled parking area, laundry (washing machine, tumble drier) and barn, useful for your bicycles/beach gear etc. Smart, comfortable cottages in a peaceful, picturesque location, much enjoyed by birdwatchers.
2 Shippen Cottages (see arrow 2): porch for coats/boots; stable doors into spacious, light open-plan living/dining/fitted kitchen (dishwasher, microwave) with leather sofas, TV/DVD and French windows to deck (table/chairs). Two bedrooms, both smart with pretty valley views – a double (5’ bed) with en suite roll-in shower-room (wet-room suite), and a twin with en suite shower-room.

"We've just had an excellent stay at Shippen Cottages. We can't recommend this place enough. The location was fabulous, it was spotlessly clean and the owners Mark and Anne were so welcoming. "Shippen 2 was such a lovely place, out in the middle of the countryside, amongst the trees, so many different birds coming to the feeders, we could just sit on the deck and watch it all, so quiet, apart from the odd train or car nearby. Just perfect - everything there that we could ever want. Mark the owner very welcoming, and their eggs, cakes, milk and flowers were much appreciated. Hope to visit again one day. Shame about the wet weather!"
