About this property

Resting within a sleepy courtyard at the heart of Grasmere Village, Molly’s Cottage is a charming stone dwelling offering an idyllic base for a family of five, seeking an unforgettable escape to the Cumbrian countryside. Rustle up some tasty treats in the bright and airy galley-style kitchen, home to a plethora of appliances such as an electric oven and hob, a fridge, a freezer and a dishwasher to help you along the way. There’s also a well-designed utility room with underfloor heating and a washing machine, together creating a handy space where you can clean off your muddy clothes following a fun-filled day walking in the fells. Gather with loved ones in the sociable living/dining room and delight in fantastic family feasts around the dining table, before retiring over to one of the two stylish sofas to watch your favourite evening shows or curling up in the inviting armchair with a new and exciting novel. Up on the first floor, three good bedrooms consisting of two king-size and a single provide a calm and serene setting to escape the excitement and enjoy a moment to yourself, before venturing across to the bright and contemporary shower room for a refreshing rinse. When ready to explore the true delights of Cumbria, grab your walking boots and head for the beautiful White Moss Walks or the incredible Grasmere Waterfall Walkway where you can admire stunning scenery and awe-inspiring vistas. Avid walkers should be sure to explore the vast landscapes of Green Gable or push themselves with a hike to the peak of Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain! Avid historians will relish in days spent at the National Trust owned 19th century fortress of Wray Castle and Beatrix Potter’s former farmhouse, Hill Top, whilst there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Treetop Lake District and Waterpark Lakeland Adventure Centre. Grasmere is home to the wonderful attractions of Wordsworth Grasmere and Faeryland, where you can take a pretty row boat out onto the River Rothay before grabbing a warm cup of tea and a delicious slice of cake in the tea garden. Over in Ambleside, an excellent selection of bars, cafés and restaurants are great for evenings out on the town, and a number of takeaways and well-stocked supermarkets provide everything you could possibly need for an entertaining night indoors. With so much awaiting you, Molly’s Cottage is the perfect choice for your next self-catering stay in the Lake District.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Wonderful beds, slept brilliantly. Have booked for the October half term again next year, thank you, Jen

The utility room was very useful for drying out our wet walking gear after all the rain. Just one slight criticism in that we had to provide a few items ourselves including kitchen roll and spare toilet roll, which we have usually been provided with in other properties. Overall a very enjoyable stay, thank you.

So handy for the centre of Grasmere and the bus stop is just a few yards away. We parked up and used the bus or walked everywhere, not using the car all week. So you could easily do this holiday by public transport. The 6' bed was a real treat. There wasn't really space for a second car as the people in the end house had a large car and it would have made it very difficult for them to get in and out if we had a second car parked in front of the house. Lovely stay overall.
