About this property

Resting in the coastal village of Allonby, just north of Maryport, Cumbria, with a south facing aspect and overlooking the village green, lies this fabulous, spacious two-bedroom holiday home a stones throw from the Blue Flag beach, Gulls Hatch. Set over three floors, this property welcomes four guests for a memorable, self-catered stay, boasting tasteful, well-presented living spaces and a wealth of nifty on-site amenities. Inside, make yourself at home in the open-plan kitchen, dining and living room that is kept warm by a centrepiece woodburning stove, where you and your loved ones can rustle up and enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals to be enjoyed at the dining table or breakfast bar. In the evenings, retreat to the second-floor spectacular sitting room to enjoy a film or two on the Smart TV with beautiful bay views, before indulging in a long, rejuvenating bath on your way to sleep in a plush double bedroom, an idyllic spot to rest and refresh after a day full of fun activities. After enjoying your morning coffee on the front patio, which enjoys stunning views of the seafront taking in beautiful views across the Solway Firth to Scotland, take a short walk to grab an ice cream from Twentymans ice-cream Parlour that you can savour on a peaceful stroll along Blue Flag-certified Allonby Beach. Maryport is a brief drive south, where visitors can find the Maryport Maritime Museum, Senhouse Roman Museum, and the tranquil spot of Maryport Marina as well as the Lake District Coast Aquarium with crazy golf. Slightly further afield you can find Cockermouth, home to the scenic Memorial Gardens, as well as the National Trust landmark location of Wordsworth House and Garden. If you want to make a day of it, make the trip to the market town of Keswick; situated at the heart of the Lake District, this bustling spot is home to the grounds of Hope Park and the historic landmark of the Castlerigg Stone Circle. All of this and more await during a stay at Gulls Hatch.

The well-known seaside town of Allonby is situated in a five-mile-long crescent-shaped bay on the Solway Firth, offering a safe sand beach during low tide and miles of clean shingle beach during high tide. There are lovely panoramic views across the harbour towards Criffel and the Galloway Hills of Scotland, and the flat ground is perfect for walkers of all ages, dogs, windsurfers, and kite flyers. The village, which is located in an area recognised as having outstanding natural beauty, has retained much of its Victorian and Georgian charm, with cobblestone streets, intriguing nooks to discover, and a number of magnificent buildings, including The Baths, an impressive colonnaded structure. The magnificent Lake District Fells provide the ideal setting for the settlement. The village is traversed by the Cumbria Coastal Path and the Allerdale Ramble. Both the renowned Silloth Golf course and the Maryport Golf Course offer links golf. You can travel quickly to the ancient city of Carlisle, cross the border to Gretna Green, experience Hadrian's Wall's 2000-year legacy, or spend fun-filled days exploring the picturesque Western Lakes and fells, where there are a variety of things to see and do, including Hadrian's Cycleway where you can enjoy the breathtaking views while travelling. For mountain bikers and walkers, the breathtaking Whinlatter Forest Park in the vicinity of Keswick is a haven, and for the more daring, the Go Ape high wire adventure course is perfect. Allonby is a wonderful year-round getaway that makes a great starting point from which to explore the region.

This was a great find. A cosy and tastefully decorated cottage with everything we needed to make our stay an enjoyable and comfortable one. Wonderful coastal walks and not too far from towns for a bit of retail therapy.

The cottage is very well equipped and clean throughout and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We loved walking on the beach and cycling along Hadrian's Cycleway and will definitely look forward to another visit.
