About this property

Set in the heart of Blockley, Bankside Cottage is a gorgeous 17th century home perfect for a getaway to the Cotswolds. Situated in an elevated position, a family of four can enjoy stunning views of the beautiful surrounding countryside from their front door! As you enter the cottage, you will find yourself in a cozy lounge equipped with a wood-burning stove (perfect for those chilly Autumn evenings), a relaxing dining area, and sofas where you can curl up and catch up with the day's events. Moving through to the kitchen, you will find a stunning and contemporary area filled with all modern conveniences, allowing you to prepare any meals you wish to have throughout your stay. As you rise to the first floor, the history and quirky charm of this lovely cottage becomes ever more apparent (please be aware that these stairs are steeper than you might normally encounter, and are not suitable for anyone with limited mobility). On the first floor, you will find a double bedroom enjoying glorious views of the countryside around the village, as well as a modern family bathroom. The first floor is also home to a relaxing snug, the perfect spot for a bit of 'me' time! Moving up to the second floor you will find the master suite, with a king-size bed and sumptuous en-suite shower room, adding a real touch of luxury to an already gorgeous cottage. The outside space is located to the rear of the cottage, accessed through the kitchen, this space consists of a number of terraces rising up the steep hills; the first terrace provides a lovely sun-trap, where you can enjoy a morning coffee, an evening glass of wine or a spot of al-fresco dining. Being based in the centre of the village, you are just yards away from the friendly village shop-cum-cafe, and the two pubs, both of which serve traditional pub grub. Take a wander around this lovely village and you will see signs of its commercial heritage as a major centre of the silk spinning industry; more recently it has been used as the location for the filming of the Father Brown' TV series, and the actors can often be seen wandering the streets of the village. Alternatively travel just three miles to the lovely village of Chipping Campden, home to the Cotswold Olimpick Games, which are believed to have started in 1652, and which feature such pastimes as shin-kicking and dwile flonking! Travel a little further and you will find yourself in Broadway, where you can wander up to Broadway Tower and marvel at the beauty of the magnificent views. A few miles more and you will discover Stow-on-the-Wold. One of the best-known towns within the Cotswolds for its rich history in annual fairs. Make the most of your location and venture into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to find a wealth of outdoor activities. Bankside Cottage is the perfect retreat to the Cotswolds.

Tucked away in the Stroud valley is the stone-built village of Blockley. A settlement steeped in history, Blockley is home to the former silk and corn mills that once made the village a booming industrial hub. The village now provides visitors with a quaint location to enjoy a holiday, with a popular village shop and The Great Western Arms pub at their doorstep. Blockley's location is truly superb, with it being a stone's throw away from the centre of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a plethora of towns and cities in Gloucestershire.

The area first of all was very pretty with it's close proximity to wonderful country walks. The cottage was very welcoming and did not disappoint. There was ample accommodation considering it was for 2 bedrooms. The wonderful log burner made it so cosy. Very high quality throughout. Everything worked well. We were lucky enough to enjoy Christmas here and had to peel ourselves away! Having explored the outdoor area too, would imagine it to be equally wonderful for all seasons enjoying it's pretty alfresco dining areas. Only due to us spending a lot of time in the cottage itself, a small freezer would be beneficial, even stored in the outhouse. We had a perfect time and would highly recommend it.

Everything you need and more .

If we were offering helpful guidance I would suggest the ladies would enjoy a full length mirror and the top floor bedroom needs a dressing table. Otherwise just great.
