Rural views and character features give this room a homely and comforting feel.

A step leads up to the well-equipped and tastefully decorated kitchen, offering you and your group all the contemporary amenities you will need during your stay to cook up scrumptious meals. The underfloor heating adds to the comforting feels of this home and is perfect for arriving back from a cold walk.

If you’re looking for some peace a quiet, make yourself a warm mug of tea and head into the snug, which leads out to the garden and is a lovely calming space. The day bed benefits from doubling up as a super-king-size double bed for additional guests, on request.

When the night draws to a close, head upstairs into the large first floor hallway and choose from one of the elegant bedrooms. The master is a stylish dual aspect double room, with attractive stone mullion window, oak flooring, contains an ornamental Victorian fireplace and has graceful views over the Abbotswood Estate. The second double bedroom boasts exposed timber beams and a gable window, overlooking the field across the way.

The beautifully appointed shower room finishes off the first floor and has the advantage of contemporary underfloor heating to warm your toes on a cold morning. Have yourself an invigorating shower to start your day and head down to the equipped kitchen to cook you and your loved ones a morning meal to start your day right.

When the weather allows, take advantage of the seating area on the patio of the garden and eat your meals al fresco. The cottage garden has a colourful mix of flowerbeds, running the length of the lawned garden and houses a small stone shed which contains a handy charcoal barbecue and a little paddling pool, perfect for use in warmer months.

Resting in the little village of Lower Swell, Travellers Joy is well-placed for visiting the many beautiful Cotswold towns surrounding, one being the busy market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, where you will find plenty of amenities just a short walk from your door step, including tea rooms, individual shops, pubs, restaurants and art galleries. If you want to discover the history of Stow, take a walk around the market square, where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree and at the opposite end, you will find the ancient Market Cross, originally erected as a symbolic reminder to traders of the times to deal honestly and fairly. St Edward’s Parish Church is known for its enchanting looking tree surrounding the doorway and it is here you will find a memorial of those who fought in the last Civil War.

Venturing further afield you will find yourself in Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to its low arched bridges across the River Windrush. It is here you can discover a miniature replica of the Cotswold-stone village at The Model Village, or enjoy a scrumptious picnic surrounded by wildlife at Birdland Park & Gardens.

A short car journey will put you in Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace, Oxford or Bath; all wonderful places to enjoy a day out and return to your calming base, Travellers Joy.

Cheltenham is a town in Gloucestershire and lies beneath Cleeve Hill, the highest point in the Cotswolds and above the vale of the River Severn. It is known as 'The Western Gateway to the Cotswolds'. This edge-of-the Cotswolds spa town is hard to beat for refined elegance and Regency terraces, annual festivals, Ladies' College and racecourse. Also fortnightly farmers markets, classy shops and restaurants all surrounded by glorious countryside. The town is home to the renowned Cheltenham Festival, 4 days of horse jump racing culminating in the Gold Cup, held annually in March at Cheltenham Racecourse. It's also known for Regency buildings, including the Pittville Pump Room, a remnant of Cheltenham’s past as a spa town. There's fine art at The Wilson museum, and the Victorian Everyman Theatre has an ornate auditorium.
