About this property

Sheepwash 0.7 miles. This welcoming thatched farmhouse is one of two holiday cottages situated on a 25 acre smallholding in rural Devon, just over half a mile from the pretty village of Sheepwash situated in the Torridge Valley, which is renowned for its fishing, walking and cycling. The original Grade II listed thatched farmhouse dates back to the 1600s and provides a cosy warm family holiday cottage alongside the owners’ home and their friendly sheep, goats and llamas. There is a superb sitting room with original wooden beams and inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove, ideal for a toasty warm evening after a walk in the country lanes.

The spacious kitchen/diner is a really sociable space for the family to cook local farm produce, eat together, and chat about the day’s activities. The snooker room features antique benches so that the family can gather together after supper before slouching in front of the fire. Upstairs there are three comfortable and beautifully dressed bedrooms, two double and one twin. Outside there is a private garden with seating, a lovely and relaxing place to unwind and listen to the plentiful birdsong and animal sounds from the farm. A wonderful bonus to staying at this delightful cottage is that there is a private grass airstrip, so if you have use of a helicopter or small plane, then why not fly here and leave your car at home? Flying in Devon and Cornwall is a sheer delight with the magnificent, rolling coastal farmland and moorland scenery being largely untouched, and with a variety of small airfields, private farm strips and of course, the beautiful Scilly Isles, you have all the ingredients for a superb flying holiday.

Sheepwash village is less than a mile away and offers a good pub, a shop and friendly locals. The stunning River Torridge runs close by and provides a quiet spot along its banks for some trout fishing or a riverside walk to the village. The historic market town of Great Torrington and the larger towns of Bideford and Barnstaple are easily reached, while the spectacular North Devon beaches are only short drives away, offering surfing, miles of golden sand and fun-filled sunny days. The Long House is an excellent cottage for exploring beautiful Devon, at any time of the year. Note: This property can be booked with Ref.

Friendly owners. A beautiful area, close enough to reach everything we could want in our holiday. The snooker table was a real plus

The 15th century thatched cottage is beautiful. Everything was set out well for us two couples & their six years old son . Perfect sized lawned garden to the side of the house and barbecue, a great touch. The dogs were friendly & greeted us every time we returned.. Stumpy particularly ! The working farm was quiet, interesting to see the herd of goats nearby.. the property was sufficiently secluded from the road, but not too remote- within walking distance to small village with vibrant pub & shop . You feel sort of privileged to have run of such a lovely home for a short time.
