    West Runton Holiday Cottages

The village of West Runton, situated on the northern coast of Norfolk, is most famous for its dinosaur-age discovery. The fossils of a steppe mammoth were discovered here by a schoolchild in 1990. The fossils date back to the Ice Age and are one of the oldest fossilised creatures ever found. Thanks to this find, West Runton beach is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The nearby Cromer Museum has a display of the steppe mammoth fossils and the area attracts many archaeological enthusiasts. Holiday cottages in West Runton are very popular, especially with families that have dinosaur-mad children. West Runton has all the charm of village life as well as a fantastic beach for dog walking, wading through rock pools, and fossil hunting. Those who fancy a change of scenery can walk the Norfolk coast for superb views and sea vistas.

At Snaptrip we have thousands of cottages available to book. Our large variety of holiday cottages includes family-friendly and pet-friendly options. What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Dallorzo - Verified booking

South Way is an absolute dream! We were two families of adults and children aged 7-14. This property has the “WOW” factor when you arrive. The garden is beautiful and much fun for children and adults alike. With the nature around all day long, it’s idyllic. The property is well set out, spacious, decor is lovely (everyday I noticed something different) and I love there is a TV only in one room, where those who want TV can gather. Likewise, there is plenty of space for individual time. It is very well equipped, you’d be hard pressed not to find what you needed in the kitchen. The welcome pack of local goodies was a lovely touch and very nice. Positioning of property is ideal, across the road to train station which takes you to Sheringham, Cromer or further afield to Norwich. West Runton itself has everything you need, pub, shop, tea room etc. Beach (partly with lifeguards) again ideal, rock pools, shallow sea, lovely sand, cafe (reasonably priced) and toilets. About 10/15 min walk. There is absolutely nothing to not be happy with at South Way. Also, the staff at Original Cottages are extremely friendly and helpful if required.

The property is perfectly located for getting everywhere on foot, the beach, golf course, restaurants & takeaways, the pub and local shop are all within a 10 minute stroll, oh and I forgot the train station. We never used our car once in the week we stayed there. There are loads of local walks varying from costal, woodland, heathland and historical. You also have the towns of Sheringham and Cromer that can easily be reached on foot. The property itself has been modernised perfectly with large open plan living spaces, fully equipped kitchen and everything you could possibly need for a relaxing, comfortable stay. Also the garden is amazing, it's extremely long and our labrador had the time of his life. It's south facing so gets a lot of sun and has two seating / entertaining areas, perfect for eating alfresco. Corrine was the perfect host, she made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel extremely welcome and at home. I think this is definitely the best property we have ever stayed on and we will 100% be going back again.

This was our first visit to Norfolk but will definitely not be the last! We have been out from sunrise on Overstrand (magnificent!) to sunset on Cromer beach (beautiful). The dog has been welcomed everywhere even inside restaurants which has made it so much easier. Larkrise is a cosy and welcoming little place to come back to at the end of a day spent exploring the area. It is very well appointed with the coffee machine being a very thoughtful and in the case of one of us at least a very necessary appliance! The welcome pack was the best we have seen catering for sweet and savoury snack attacks along with a nice white wine and gorgeous local apple juice. Thank you for the recommendations of things to do and also for restaurants - particularly The Dun Cow gorgeous lunch with super fresh Brancaster Mussels and Whelk Copper for a hearty breakfast/brunch where in both cases the staff were friendly and welcoming. We have absolutely loved being here and are busily trying to work out when next we can be here.

Myself and my 5 friends absolutely loved Southway Cottage where we stayed last weekend, it is absolutely stunning, each room and space has been thoughtfully decorated and it was spotlessly clean. The grounds are gorgeous, we had a muntjac, pheasant and squirrels as resident wildlife. It was so peaceful so an excellent place to chill out if needed. It is in such a good location for getting out and visiting local areas. We went to Sheringham and on the steam train to Holt which was great fun. We had dinner in the Village Inn in West Runton on Saturday, the staff were lovely and the food was very good, so would also recommend a visit there. We would absolutely recommend staying at Southway and if we are lucky enough, would love to come back ourselves.

“What a lovely cottage, ideally situated with a lovely warm atmosphere. The beds were comfy ,the kitchen was everything we needed Only a couple of things, the sofas are due an update and the television would be better in the lounge as only two small chairs in the snug. It would be difficult for six adults. However it didn't spoil our holiday and we loved sitting by the patio doors watching greenfinches, goldfinches ,blackbirds and a baby robin in the garden. East Runton itself has lovely walks on common land and has views from the cliffs towards Cromer. There is a handy shop and pub and chippy within a few minutes walk of Walma. The beach access is a bit steep but the beach is clean and great for a good walk or just to watch the fishing boats come in.”
