      Driving through the gates and along the track, just reminded us of the original series of The Darling Buds of May, although it was shot just a few miles away. The garden is beautifully maintained with lots of flowers and the bird feeders attract a constant variety of birds, including a pair of woodpeckers that we saw most days. We were met by Amanda and Chris, who were just wonderful hosts throughout. This is undoubtedly the most comfortable of all the properties we have stayed in over the years in the UK. Coming back from our drives out to nearby attractions to an air conditioned building and being able to relax on a superbly comfortable sofa with a 64 inch 4K TV with all the channels you would need was just wonderful. Similarly, the bed upstairs is so comfortable and along with the air conditioning unit in the bedroom, made for a good night's sleep. Just a pity that the only bathroom is downstairs, which is very small and the sink a bit of a challenge. We cooked in and dined out at the local pubs over the week and both options were very enjoyable, with a well equipped kitchen, including an Air Fryer. The Black Horse in Pluckley (The Nags Head, in Darling Buds of May), is fascinating because of its age and alleged resident ghosts! We enjoyed the stay so much that we have booked again for September.

      Thank you for a very enjoyable two weeks. We have been delighted with your property. The beautiful, peaceful location is perfect. The tasteful and quality fittings and furnishings have made this feel like a real home and the vase of sweet peas that filled the air with their delicate perfume was a lovely welcoming touch. We compliment you on your information folders, they are well thought out and very comprehensive. You have been delightful hosts, thank you for the home-made rhubarb ice cream, it was delicious. We had it with blackberries that we picked on a walk. The Nutmeg in Sayers Lane serves great coffee. Ozgur, the Turkish restaurant, is excellent value, especially the Tenterden Special, 4 courses and coffee with complimentary jalapenos and olives and melon to finish. The manager is very welcoming. There is much to see around here, Hever, Chartwell and Canterbury well worth a visit.

      This was a return visit for us having stayed in 2011, and it felt like coming home! The property is spotless and has everything you require, in a quiet, beautiful and peaceful setting. It is wonderful to be able to listen to and observe the birds....woodpeckers, great tits, pheasant etc...and the squirrel trying to steal the nuts! Readers Retreat is ideally situated to visit many interesting places...Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and many vineyards to name a few. Tenterden is a 40 min walk across the fields if you wish and is an interesting well equipped friendly town with good shops and restaurants.There is also an excellent farm shop with café just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed revisiting places and finding new ones. It was also good to see Amanda again and catch up on news, we shouldn’t leave it so long next time! We highly recommend Readers Retreat.

      Little Aluph was a delight to stay in and my wife and I found it's location to be perfect for our needs.

      The hospitality and the courtesy shown to us by the owners, Julie and Chris, was faultless particularly in allowing access to their splendid grounds and tennis facilities. The 'welcome-basket', crunchy granola and other thoughtful touches were much appreciated. The 'useful information folder' was packed with detailed useful information which we found very useful (how else could I put it?). We did feel that it would be wise to have a longer anti-slip mat in the bathroom shower tray and we found it awkward to sit upright in the double bed due to the angle of the pitched roof. However, as we are only smallish folk, we did overcome this somewhat by padding ourselves out with the pillows and cushions. We would conclude that we would highly recommend Little Aluph and we wish to thank Julie and Chris for providing an adorable holiday cottage. We had a most enjoyable week in Little Aluph.

      We were really happy we chose this location as it was ideally situated in the heart of the Kent countryside and was the perfect base to explore the rest of the county. It was also easy to get to shops, takeaways and pubs for any food or provisions that we needed. The property itself was everything we could have hoped for. The cottage was comfortable and very well equipped, and the garden was a great place to relax and enjoy the good weather that we had. This all came at we thought was a very reasonable price, and compared very well with alternative properties that we considered. Finally we have to say a huge thank you to Chris and Amanda, the owners, who were exceptionally warm and welcoming, and extremely helpful.     Stoneacre is a Grade II* listed National Trust property in Otham, near Maidstone. It is a half-timbered yeoman farmer's house and garden dating from the 15th century, together with a small garden, orchard and meadows. Arts and Crafts scholar Aymer Vallance saved this mediaeval yeoman's house from destruction in 1920, and restored it into the charming house that it is today. Toilets and picnic benches.
