What our customers say about their holidays

      WOW

There’s plenty of WOW factor to be enjoyed at The Breakers. The house is beautiful and if you love uninterrupted views of the sea, as we do, this is the place to be. It felt at times like being on a luxury yacht without the sea sickness! The delightful owners could not have been more welcoming, supplying us with a cot and high chair for our one year old grandson and a brand new bed and yummy treats for our dog. They then visited to show us how everything works in their exceptionally well appointed house and give us a comprehensive guide of things to do and places to eat in Folkstone - just a ten minute drive or half an hour stroll along the beach front- and surrounding area. We had a wonderful sense of quiet and privacy at The Breakers as the shingle beach directly outside the house remained relatively underpopulated even on hot, sunny days. There’s a sandy beach only ten minutes walk away so we felt we had the best of both worlds. We only used one of the two small kitchens in the house as we wanted to all eat together as a family. It was a bit of a challenge at times cooking for 6 and a toddler in such a tight space, but we couldn’t have wanted for a lovelier setting to enjoy family time together. On cooler days there’s a roaring wood burning stove to snuggle up to on the sofa while watching Netflix movies! So it really is a year round holiday house. This is definitely a five star stay and we recommend it extremely highly.

I would not stay at this cottage again as it is too small for 4 adults.

The fact that the weather was good meant that we could sit in the garden and use the studio at the bottom of the garden. There was not sufficient storage for clothes and there were a lack of kitchen utensils for cooking. There was no salt and pepper dispensers and no cleaning materials. So had to purchase these. The water was not draining away in the shower, on inspecting the shower waste was disgusting (full of hair, soap and scum), there was a lot of dust under the lounge chairs, around the feet of the chairs and ,on the bottom of the lamp. I left the property a lot cleaner than when we arrived. (Although I just wiped the bathroom down because it needed a deep clean). The positives were the bedrooms had televisions, the bed in the back bedroom was comfortable and the property was close to the main shops and the canal.

It's a lovely cottage and the owner has made the decor very homely.

However, we found some aspects very impractical. Having no TV on the ground floor of the main house just didn't work for us. Our stay was immediately after the Queen's death and It meant that we couldn't come back and catch up on the day's news while cooking and eating our evening meal. We had to wait till after we'd eaten and go out in the dark, chilly (and sometimes rainy) night, crossing a stony uneven courtyard to watch TV in the games room. Bizarrely, there were TVs in each bedroom but it would have been cramped to watch TV there with no comfortable seating also a bit anti social. On the positive side the cottage was well located for local restaurants and shopping. Only 15 minutes walk from a very clean promenade and beach and easy to get to Kent's attractions further afield.

      Highly recommend a stay

Our stay at The Breakers exceeded all expectations. The location of the house, literally on the beach, is unbeatable. It is within walking distance of local shops, cafes and pubs. Taking our bicycles was an excellent decision as directly outside the house is a national cycle route along the seafront and then continues alongside the Royal Military Canal. The house itself was exceptionally well equipped and the owners had thought of everything you would need. The decor was perfect for a holiday stay and very clean. The owners were very helpful with suggestions of local attractions and restaurant recommendations. We would definitely recommend The Breakers as a great destination for your next holiday and look forward to returning there.
