    Ipswich Holiday Cottages

Famous for being one of England's oldest towns, dating back to the 8th century, Ipswich is steeped in history, hosting a diversity of buildings from evocative eras, including superb Tudor and Elizabethan structures. This is a town that is truly alive with character and nostalgia. Once graced by the likes of Charles Dickens and painter Thomas Gainsborough, we're certain that you too shall find pleasure in this beautiful town.

Taking a relaxing stroll down the atmospheric waterfront, you can enjoy the hustle and bustle that radiates from the popular bars and cafes. You may then go on to discover one of Suffolk’s most treasured buildings: the exquisite Tudor Christchurch Mansion, which holds one of the biggest collections of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable paintings outside of London. Alternatively, you may enjoy submerging yourself in the natural wonders that can be found in Holywells Park, with its stunning trees and ponds extending over 28 hectares.

At Snaptrip, we'll help you find your dream property in the perfect location. With thousands of listings and partnering with the largest cottage providers in the UK, we feel confident that we'll be able to find what you're looking for. Got a question? What our customers say about their holidays

    • Trevor - Verified booking

The cottage was freezing when we arrived so we spent the first night in coats.

The welcome pack was nice and included ground coffee but no cafetiere or anything to make it with. I rang the number but they were no help. I did find a cocktail shaker with a dead fly in it though. The TV batteries were dead and no spares in the man drawer. There are CDs but no CD player, videos but no video player. There are candles dotted around but the instruction booklet said candles weren't allowed. The kitchen could have done with scissors and tongs. The downstairs shower room never got warm enough to use. Some of the curtains could have done with being a bit shorter so they would fit behind the radiators better. The cold water feed in the upstairs bathroom was worse than the hot water feed. There was a freezer but it was in an outside shed so probably wouldn't work in cold weather. The drive is constructed such that you scrape the bottom of the car on entering. I had to park in an unlit road. To get recycling instructions you had to type in a long URL to get to the county council information. I didn't bother. The cottage itself was fabulous. Uneven floors, small doors, cosy rooms; all quaint features you'd expect from a 17th century building. It is barely overlooked. The garden is huge. It's nice to see they've not sold it off. There's a lookout table and chairs at the highest point, but you have to avoid the dog pooh on the steps.

Having stayed at Upper lodge for the last seven years, March 2023 was the first time we felt the need to write a review.

The owners apologised and asked us to give it another go. So in March 2024 we did. On arrival we found the waste bins were not emptied and were left in the main bedroom. The bathroom and en suite bins were full to the brim with the previous occupants rubbish and still in their respective rooms. After emptying the bins we could not find any replacement bin bags in the kitchen drawer at all. Once again we found dog hair on the furniture and seating area floor downstairs. The towels and quilt covers and pillowslips in both double rooms had some dubious stains on them. Some of these stains could have been from the washing machine door rubber which was disgusting and really needed cleaning, which we did before we used it..The tea towels had been washed but still looked grubby. We could not start to enjoy our stay until we had vacuumed the lodge right through with a hoover that desperately needs new floor tools and cleaning out and a new bag fitted. Upper lodge is a stunning property in a beautiful location and we understand that it is a holiday let that is in need of some TLC but it should be CLEAN! We are sorry to say that we are very disappointed as we really look forward to holidaying there.

A good size holiday cottage, placed between Sutton Hoo and the golf course at Woodbridge (both of which have public footpaths for dog walks). A pretty part of the world to visit, near heaths/commons, woodland/forrest and shingle beaches. The beds were comfy, kitchen was well equipped, light living room with a nice fireplace (not used as it was June), a good size garden but the fence is mostly picket to waist height (so only really suitable for smaller dogs unsupervised as there is a main road at the back). Access is by a private drive, which is best suited to a 4x4 type car - you wouldn’t want to take a low slung car down it. Good it has its own parking and it’s pretty secluded. The area is generally quiet, you can’t hear the road in the house and it’s good to see the stars. Woodbridge is nearby with lots of facilities, and the Plough at Sutton is great for proper home cooked food. There are other fancier gastro type pubs about, which aren’t our thing. We enjoyed our break, and would recommend the accommodation.

A thoroughly enjoyable and welcoming place to stay and in a fantastic location.

The property was as described and offered many features and comforts; the little cosy lounge was exceptionally lovely to chill-out in after exploring the Suffolk countryside. The reception pack of wine and fresh bread etc was a lovely thought and most welcome. The only minor issue we had was with the ramp to the gravel driveway. As soon as the front wheels got on to the gravel, there was insufficient support and the car bottomed out scraping the ridge. Either the ramp is slightly too steep or the first foot or so of the gravel drive needs to be reinforced. However, this was easily overcome as there was sufficient room to park outside the lovely entrance gate to the property on the roadside. No doubt though, I would highly recommend this charming property to others for an ideal location to base your travels around mid & south Suffolk.
