What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sean - Verified booking

The house has such great potential, however we had several issues during our stay, and some positives too.

      1) The dishwasher was broken, we were told when we arrived - as 3 families (11 people) this wasn't ideal, it was a lot of extra time washing dishes on a supposed luxury break, I know these things can't be helped, but it was not replaced until literally the morning we left (the irony!) this could have been resolved much sooner. 2) The hot tub was freezing cold for the first 24 hours, we were told it was due to it being 'cleaned' yet no other lodge we have stayed at had this problem, it was also never inspected for the entire week we were there, other lodges have someone come every morning to check the ph levels etc, which may have caused our illness (see further down). 3) The house was not cleaned to a satisfactory standard, firstly, let me say the main cleaner was absolutely wonderful, a lovely lady who tried her best, but that property is too much for one cleaner, you need a couple of cleaners to really properly clean it, the wooden floor was dirty, the sofa had a musty smell (why fabric sofa's in a lodge? Surely get leather easier to clean!) Positives; 1) The tennis court is brilliant, as are the swings/play area for the kids, clean and just a really good area, fresh air, no need for video game consoles! 2) The staff on site, particularly the main cleaner, and the lady in the main office who kept informing us of the dishwasher situation, she also sent the cleaner to clean the lodge when we mentioned the issue. 3) 2 Bottles of wine on arrival, very nice touch, and very nice wine. 4) Beds were comfortable, showers were powerful, rooms were huge. Unfortunately, out of 11 of us, 9 of us were sick during and following the stay, the children from the early part of the stay, later moving on to the adults - whilst we can't exactly pinpoint what caused it, we have our suspicions it was related to the hot tub cleanliness. When all is said and done, would we go back there? Probably not.

The Bothy is one of the loveliest cottages we have ever stayed at.

From the moment we rounded the bend in the track and saw it framed by idyllic fields, and with the backdrop of a blue, sparkling sea, we knew it was going to be a special place, and it was. It is completely self-contained - we didn't see another human being (apart from a farmer in the distance driving a hay baler and the occasional person who came to feed the sheep) the entire time we were in the cottage, and all we could hear was the wind in the trees, the birds and the aforementioned sheep, who were our welcome companions for the week. The views, from around the cottage and through the lounge windows, are sublime, and you can walk down the hill and into Slapton Wood which, again, was deserted and felt like our own private woodland. We heard so many species of birds, and saw both a barn owl and a tawny owl, which was wonderful! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, and contained everything we needed for the week. The beds were really comfortable and, combined with the complete darkness and silence at night, gave us a week of great sleep. The hot tub is a lovely addition, particularly when sitting in it at night under the stars. The location of The Bothy is also ideal - we had days out in Brixham, Dartmouth and Salcombe, as well as a drive over Dartmoor. We walked the half a mile to one of the pubs in the village, and Slapton Nature Reserve (well worth a visit) and Slapton Sands are only a mile away. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing and nature-filled holiday, we couldn't recommend The Bothy more!

There are places you stay, and then there are places that stay with you. Northside is most certainly the latter. From the moment we turned down the winding Devon lanes—flanked by wild hedgerows and the occasional sheep—we knew we’d found something special. Nestled in a quiet field where the pace of life shifts with the sun, this stunning hideaway offered us a rare and welcome pause. A sanctuary. A true exhale. By day, we wandered the rolling hills straight from the hut, the South Hams opening before us like a well-worn novel. A cycle to Totnes for lunch brought its own adventure, while afternoons were spent listening to birds above from the sun-warmed patio, coffee in hand, time gently melting away. The nearby beaches—Bantham, Thurlestone, and our secret favourite, Wonnell—were food for the soul, as restorative as the sea breeze that greeted us there. As evening fell, the fire pit flickered to life and the stars arrived in quiet procession. We listened to the stillness. We slept deeply, cocooned in washed linen and soft textures. Every detail—from crafted furnishings to handmade ceramics—tells a story of care and creativity. This is more than a stay; it’s a deeply nourishing retreat. A place for reading, resting, stargazing and forgetting to check your phone. Northside isn’t just off the beaten path—it’s off the clock, off the grid, and utterly off the scale in charm.

What a fabulous place to stay.

The property has everything we needed and was in such a peaceful location. The hot tub was the cherry on the cake. The owners were lovely and made us feel so welcome. All the little items provided at the start of our holiday were a lovely touch. There is nothing to fault and I really hope we will be back next year. You get used to the narrow roads and they are worth it for the beautiful location of the property. It was a real wrench to leave and we had such a relaxing time. There are a couple of lovely pubs a few minutes drive away situated on Bow Creek another lovely setting. I recommend The Maltsters Arms for great food and service (Keith Floyd’s old pub). The hosts were so helpful with where to go and what to do and we made the most of the advice. Most places less than 20 miles away and little more than 30 minutes drive. We visited Dartmouth, Totnes, Salcombe, Bantham, East Prawlthorpe, Gara Rock and Hope Cove to name a few. Great coastal walks with stunning views. The Round Robin trip was also a great day out with open top bus from Totnes, Steam Train, Ferry, a stop in Dartmouth and a Dart river cruise back to Totnes. Highly recommended it. A perfect holiday in a perfect property

House was very clean and well equipped.

We went away with our children and grandchildren so there were 10 of us. The bedrooms we’re comfortable and spacious (4 with en suite). The lounge area didn’t have enough sofas for 10 people and meant some had to use the large footstool and dining chairs which weren’t ideal. The house is close to Dartmouth and has lovely views from 2 of the bedrooms. We were told the pool and children’s play area was out of use due to COVID situation but on arrival it was clear the children’s playground was out of use due to the building works being undertaken so that wasn’t so good. The hot tub had constant warm water that was cleaned daily. Tennis court was good and readily available for use. The house has a small decking area and no garden which we didn’t realise so that made it difficult for the grandchildren to run around freely. Would have been a nice touch for a small shop to get early morning milk, bread & eggs etc, but local supermarket a short drive away. House is well situated for a quiet peaceful holiday or short drive will take you to local towns, beaches and places of interest.
