What our customers say about their holidays

    • April - Verified booking

We booked sebright as a little getaway with our dog.

I must say I was a little sceptical after reading the reviews. Sebright is a lovely, relaxing and private getaway in a lovely part of Cornwall. The owners heated up the hot tub for us as we travelled down so it was ready for us when we arrived. We arrived late as we couldn’t travel as early as we wanted but the owners left the light on and the keys on a safe place so we didn’t have to disturb them. The farm was beautiful, we didn’t see much of it as we had planned days out already but we absolutely loved the privacy of our stay, 6ft fences all the way round meant that you had safety for your dog and private space. The log hot tub was just luxurious, you can feel the heat piping in. Lodge was spacious and had everything we needed, we brought food which we thought would be easy to cook given previous reviews but honestly you could cook a full roast dinner here, the comment about ‘no facilities, scissors, mop’ they had weighing scales! We brought extra bits given the old reviews but ended up leaving them in the car. There was everything we needed to be honest. It was clean on arrival and there was some fresh scones, cream and jam and even milk in the fridge. We didn’t actually get to meet the owners but they were very friendly when arranging keys, and were disappointed we didn’t get to meet their spaniels! We brought ours! We didn’t plan for the weather well but that was our own fault so we did leave late Sunday night, to beat traffic but the fire was a cosy place to snuggle up and watch a film. We felt it was close to the places we wanted to go and visit and was perfect for us. We have told many dog owners how we thought this was a perfect secure getaway and a lovely break for us too

The location was good, but the cottage smelled of damp, likely coming from the bathroom.

Garden and outside area were not great, we were expecting a proper garden with a nicer fence/enclosure, but there was just grass. We appreciate that it is was the end of October, but gardens can be looked after in winter too (especially for the amount of money that two nights in the cottage costed). Hot tub was great, but it took almost an hour to reach the right temperature and the bag of logs can be used once only, so to use the hot tub again, extra money is required for another bag of logs, which is excessive after having spent almost £400 for two nights. It was very windy and we could hear something in the cottage rattling for the entire stay (not sure what is was, our guess is the metallic heater inside the cottage which is powered by wood). No shower gel/shampoo or hair dryer provided, which we found disappointing. We appreciate that these were not on the list of things provided, but it is what is expected as a minimum. Everything listed was there, enough space in the wardrobe for two nights, nice cottage inside, but, again, we were expecting more as furnitures had rusty handles and were old. It was clean, there is a dish washer and even dishwasher tablets are provided. Check in time is 5pm, extreme really, especially when you have to check out at 10 am and leave everything clean behind you, even take the rubbish out. Earlier check in was accomodated for us, but for 3pm, which is still late if you are there just for two nights. We were welcomed with ginger biscuits (which we loved) and a botyle of wine, which was very nice on the owner. Overall not bad, but can be improved a lot. And a bit too expensive for what we found.

Our booked six night stay consisted of one night before we gave the keys back and found somewhere else to stay.

In 25 years of renting holiday cottages, this was by far the worst. Spartan, poorly equipped, no room whatsoever, no storage space and what we believed to be us having the run of a large garden (as the photos depicted) for our two spaniels, we had a 12 x 12ft patch of grass. The tv is at a 45 degree angle to the settee, so you had to crane your neck to watch it. No net curtains so no privacy. A kitchen without a cooker, draining board or washing machine, the latter essential for a cottage that's supposedly dog friendly. As for the front door..... We were told NOT to turn the car around using the property opposite's drive which necessitated reversing down the narrow lane to get out, no mention of this when we booked. Presumably the cottage owners and the neighbour don't get on? The directions to the place weren't even accurate. If this place WAS converted from a barn, I can only assume that the barn was more comfortable. When we departed on the Sunday morning, the owners weren't in, so I texted them to say we'd left the place and to let them know where we'd left the key. Several hours later they replied to say, "oh dear, thanks for letting us know, we hope you find something more suited to your needs". No apology, no " what could we have done to make your stay better?", essentially, " thanks for your £400, 'bye". I just can't believe the glowing reviews for this place, people must have very low expectations. We will NEVER book through you again, a complete and utter disappointment. Yours sincerely Graham & Caroline Brown

      We did enjoy our holiday.

The place was nice but smaller than expected, however the sea view was lovely. We do have things to note though. I think marketing as pet friendly is not quite accurate. We kept our dog out of the bedroom as much as possible (as requested) however, one time he snuck in while I was grabbing something from the bedroom and jump on the bed just once. He did get a few mud marks on it but to claim that you needed to replace the sheets and under sheets, we think is a little misleading of your title as “pet-friendly”. We’ve been to Cornwall before in other venues which have definitely been more accommodating for dogs, especially as a fee for having a pet there is already taken for the holiday. To then ask for £85 for new sheets I would recommend changing your accommodation details for “no pets”. The hot tub was nice, although I’m not sure if everyone has used a firewood hot tub before, so maybe more information on this is needed for future holiday visitors. The bed was comfy and facilities were generally clean. We do believe there was either rats or some small animals scattering around outside but I guess to be expected for a location near farmland. Overall it was good, we had a discount due to booking last minute so we feel it fairly meets the price of booking we paid/to experience of accommodation. However, if we had paid usual price, we are not sure we would feel the same.

Sebright was clean with great views and the enclosed garden was great for our dog.

We were left with scones, jam and cream on arrival which was a nice touch. The Sebright in my view was/is a camouflaged caravan not a log cabin as advertised as l didn't want a caravan stay, although it would have been cheaper. The bedroom bedding was clean although rather heavy and felt that with a little better layout could have had bedside shelves or cabinets. The kitchen area could do with a toaster and a microwave although l appreciate the space restriction but worth it. The sofa was on the small side and sort of swallowed you when sitting down. We attempted to increase the heating one evening following the instructions without any luck so decided to put the log burner on but it was difficult to get going as we only had larger logs and not sure about the two small levers ? Some basic instructions for the log burner, hot tub and washer drier would be a help. The bathroom did smell of damp and the sink area could be increased to provide some extra area to put some basic products on or a toilet bag. Also a toilet brush would have also helped. So a cosy caravan not a log cabin as advertised but has great views and enclosed for dogs but it's not what ĺ expected especially for the cost. . .
