    Craven Arms Holiday Cottages

Craven Arms - a historic market town - is nestled in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, which have been designated an Area of Outstanding National Beauty. Visitors who want to explore the countryside and learn more about the town's history can check out the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. This boasts an incredible replica of a Mammoth skeleton, found by a local woman.

No trip to Craven Arms would be complete without a trip to Stokesay Castle: a lovingly restored medieval fortified manor house. Children and adults alike will enjoy spotting the characters carved into the gatehouse's wooden timbers, before enjoying a slice of cake at the castle's tearoom.

At Snaptrip, we offer thousands of properties to choose from, backed by our best price guarantee. Use our search filters to take care of the practical details, such as room capacity and accessibility, along with those lovely extras - from private hot tubs to roaring fires. If you need any extra help finding your perfect holiday cottage, simply drop our friendly customer service team an email.

What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed at Riverside, Stokesay, in the last week of April 2023.

The one-bedroom apartment is upstairs in the Old Vicarage; the stairs are narrow and quite steep with a return so would be difficult for anyone with poor mobility. That said, this is one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in. The owners are friendly and greeted us in person. The apartment features large rooms and high ceilings throughout, with large Georgian windows overlooking the owners' large garden. These are single-glazed except in the bedroom (secondary glazing). The property is on the A49 but we were not disturbed by traffic noise at night. The central heating works well and kept the place warm and cosy. There is a large shower room and separate WC. The bedroom features a 6'x8' bed with two large built-in wardrobes, so plenty of storage. The kitchenette, open plan with the lounge, is basic, featuring a mini-oven with hob and a microwave but we rustled up basic meals ok. Some visitors will no doubt prefer to eat out anyway. The views are lovely and the garden is alive with wildlife: birds on the nut feeders, pheasants and wild rabbits. There is a seating area for guests too. The wifi worked well except when the resident squirrels chewed through the phone line! This was fixed courtesy of BT. The property is next door to picturesque Stokesay Castle (EH), and there are walks from the property via the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. Ludlow is nearby, Bishops Castle and Church Stretton/The Long Mynd/Cardingmill Valley (NT) are a short drive away. The property sits nicely in the south Shropshire hills AONB, and gives access to places in north Herefordshire too, such as Croft Castle (NT), worth a visit. We drive an EV and found a chargepoint in nearby Craven Arms, in the petrol station at Tuffin's supermarket. This has four plugs which seem to be little used so a charge is easy to obtain.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely village.

Really comfy suite in the living room with a log burner that gives off tons of heat and a smart tv with netflix and all the catchups. Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and all necessary utensils. The bedrooms are really comfortable. The only caveat I would give is if you're slightly tall, beware of the low lintels, I did a very good impression of Terry Butcher after coming down the stairs one day! Two good pubs, the Lion, which apparently does good food, but as dogs are only allowed in the top bar which is a bit soulless we only went into once and the Sun Inn which is a must see, just like walking into someone's home! Great garage in the village which will keep you supplied with day to day items and there's Tuffins in Craven Arms which is the nearest supermarket. Had a lovely week there, plenty of places to take dogs and there's tons of things to do in the area, Ludlow + castle is a must!

      What a charming, beautifully-presented cottage.

The front door leads to a flagstoned passage with stunning wallpaper. The charming sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and stylish, comfortable furniture. The kitchen, with attractive units made from recycled wooden panelling, is very well-equipped and there is the luxury of a dishwasher. We so enjoyed staying here. It feels like a home, with its original features, carefully chosen vintage furniture and ornaments, and little courtyard with table and chairs. Local information and details of good pubs and restaurant menus were very useful. The village butcher has excellent, locally-sourced meat and other produce, and the garage shop has a very wide selection of groceries. There are also 2 excellent pubs 5 minutes walk away. With swimming in the river, there is no need to leave this lovely place, but there is plenty of interest in the surrounding area, if you want an outing.

The cottage has been beautifully renovated, with beautiful decor, to create a very stylish, cosy & comfortable haven. The welcome pack & kitchen supplies were much appreciated & the instructions were clear without being overwhelming. A great location to access lots of places with relative ease. How lovely to be able to enjoy an easy stroll to The Shropshire Hills Centre & spectacular Stokesay Castle, just by stepping out of The Carthouse. For those of you who appreciate a few car free days, there are both buses and trains readily available too for trips to Ludlow, Church Stretton, Hereford & Shrewsbury. There are lots of beautiful walks to be enjoyed as well as some great pubs such as The Ragleth Inn, Little Stretton, where we had a splendid Sunday Lunch. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Carthouse for a lovely getaway.

Lovely little cottage in a beautiful location, we very much enjoyed our stay.

The cottage was immaculate with everything you might need. Owner was on hand to meet us and was very welcoming. We had our young dog with us which meant we could take advantage of a secure field behind the cottage. There was lots of recall training to be had which was great. Cottage was dog friendly (bed and treats provided) however we really struggled with the 'no dogs on the furniture or upstairs' rule which our pup found difficult to understand. We might suggest some sort of gate to help stop dogs as we had to fashion one using the kitchen bin! We would also recommend making sure this information is communicated before arrival as the Sykes dog checklist just mentions bringing throws for the furniture which we had done. Overall the cottage was lovely and well placed to access the outstanding Shropshire countryside.
