What our customers say about their holidays

We had a great week’s holiday- all 8 adults and a baby.

We loved the location with fabulous views over unspoilt countryside, with lots of lovely walks straight from the door. Very peaceful. Sheep in the field beyond the garden and chickens clucking around and horses in the upper field gave lovely feel of being part of natural surroundings. Play barn, table tennis, swing, trampoline were unexpected and much appreciated . Plenty of attractive places locally to visit: Tavistock, Totnes, Exmoor, Prison museum at Princeton was really interesting, beaches only 15 miles away. The Whitchurch Inn has a great atmosphere and does excellent food just 5 minutes down the road by car. Layout of barnhouse excellent and very well equipped. The barn was very clean and the decor fresh and comfortable. It was lovely to be welcomed with a cream tea - thank you. Fresh eggs from farm delicious too. Just a couple of niggles: the downstairs bedroom was rather dark, damp and smelt musty. Despite opening the small window and putting on the portable radiator, the mustiness clung to the room. Room needs better ventilation. The upstairs bedroom with the double sofa bed felt small, very soft and uncomfortable, and the occupants could not sleep and suffered backache. They closed the sofa bed and slept on the sofa bed cushions on the floor as it was more comfortable. We suggest a king size bed or two single beds would be preferable to the sofa bed. Overall, we loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

We had to access the property along a farm track.

The track was badly in need of repair with large potholes. This caused problems as we had two cars one being a jaguar that struggled along the track and they were very concerned for their exhaust and sump and feared that they may sustain damage. The holiday cottage is in a beautiful setting. The cottage is well equipped BUT the cottage is very dirty. On the listing it states that you have to vacate the property by 10.00am to enable deep cleaning. This property has not been deep cleaned. I worked in the NHS for many years and I can state that there was dirt and cobwebs in abundance and no sign at all of deep cleaning. I doubt that the carpets had been hoovered and when I accidentally dropped my keys down the back of the dressing table in the bedroom and had to retrieve them I was shocked by the dirt, dust and debris under the dressing table. This reinforced my suspicions that this cottage has not been deep cleaned, or indeed hoovered regularly. In this time of uncertainty we have to be assured that when we book a cottage that it has been completely and thoroughly deep cleaned and this was certainly not the case. I would love to use the cottage again but would not unless the owners take a long hard look at the cottage and start from the top and work down and disinfect and clean all surfaces, walls and carpets.

Quite frankly, the Owl Barn is far more beautiful and comfortable in person than it is in the pictures!

! I had a wonderful holiday! The view of the rolling hills was fantastic and it was great to wake up every morning, sit on the patio with tea and look at the countryside and forget all the worries and stress of daily labour and toil. The property is perfectly located. Not too far from a café or Tavistock, not too close to civilization. It’s the perfect sweet spot and has everything you need right there at hand. The kitchen is fully equipped and I whipped up some great meals with everything I needed. The owner, Ms Roberts, was courteous and very kind and she even left clotted cream and jam with scones for her guests so we could have an authentic Devonshire cream tea. Absolute bliss! It was the best holiday of my life and I will definitely be hiring the place again in the future to see more of Dartmoor and to relax and chill after months of work and toil. Ten out of ten, would book again!

      What a gem!

This is by far one of the nicest places we've stayed at in Devon, and we've been coming for many years now. Beautiful views in a peaceful setting but not too far from the main road, restaurants, pubs, Tavistock and the magnificent Dartmoor National Park. Large supermarkets very close by. Wonderful walks, especially along the nearby Walkham River. Sheep and horses as neighbours at the garden fence and plenty of visiting birds. The barn conversion is tastefully decorated, spacious, spotlessly clean, modern yet homely, very well-equipped and the beds very comfy. It's a great place all round but especially if you have someone who can't manage stairs as the whole ground floor is accessible and has a large bedroom and wet room on that level. Our old Mum loved it. Thank you so much Helen and Jacqui for being such super hosts. We highly recommend Woodstone Barn and would definitely stay there again.

We had a lovely stay in Owl Barn.

Great views and friendly neighbours in the form of sheep (and new born lambs) and horses! It was warm and cosy, comfortable beds and though it didn’t have a washing machine (or dishwasher) due to limited space, it had everything we needed. Suitable for people with limited mobility and a useful wet room. Obviously, being on a farm there were some narrow lanes to reach it, but you would expect that in a rural setting. Not a problem. The owners were helpful and friendly too. My two grandsons really enjoyed staying, and made use of the play barn. It was conveniently situated for the area i.e. Plymouth, Tavistock, Dartmoor etc, and we would have liked to have stayed longer. It would be nice to return when the weather is warmer. Overall, a lovely stay in a lovely setting.
