What our customers say about their holidays

    • Annmarie - Verified booking

      Burnside cottage was amazing .

...from location to accommodation 10/10. We were met by the owners mother who showed us around the cottage , explained heating etc and reassured us they were only a phone call away if we needed assistance , which we didn't but felt safe in the knowledge they were there to help. The cottage faces full on to the loch with a huge set of picture windows in the huge open plan living area, with 5 leather recliners and foot stools to sit in and admire the view ...pick a seat , pick a window and just relax and take it all in !! The cottage sleeps 5 and we were only 2 so it was huge , there is an ensuite with the double room and a large family bathroom with a bath which was fully utilised after walking every day . The kitchen is fully stocked with everything u can think of ... there's even a slow cooker if you want to put a stew on before u go out for the day !! Everything is very clean and well appointed . Under floor heating ensures the cottage is always the perfect temperature. Full laundry facilities also . All in all feel lucky to have gotten a last minute booking as you can see its almost fully booked through the seasons . We will definitely stay again given the opportunity . As an aside this location feels perfect for exploring the whole island as its more or less in the middle . There's also a large well stocked co-OP 7 miles away in Portree for every provision.

We were blessed with very good weather making Bannatyne Lodge even more enjoyable.

It's very airy and the lounge is very comfortable. Enclosed, private garden at the back, morning sunshine front and back, but plenty of shade can be found at the back in the afternoon. You can be straight out of the gate and onto a number of paths, ideal for dog walking. Or, you are on the western outskirts of the Sidlaw Hills and with Pitlochry and Braemar being just over an hour's drive away you are in a good location for more serious hill walking. Newtyle itself, a small, quiet friendly village, small well stocked post office / general shop ( bigger supermarkets, 20 minutes drive away), award winning butchers ( Piries, 'World Champion' pies and sausages!) and small, clean, friendly pub, The Commercial with good 'join in' acoustic music sessions, Wednesday nights. Andrea and Peter, owners of the Lodge, very friendly, considerate, helpful but very respectful too of your privacy. Our thanks to them. Overall, Bannatyne Lodge a wonderful place to stay for a quiet, relaxed holiday on the outskirts of a village which is a great place for easier local walks but with easy access to coast and mountain.

The cottage is situated in a very charming and remote part of the village which ensures that you feel completely immersed in the countryside and local walks are literally a stones throw from the cottage.

There are some lovely touches within the cottage making it feel homely as well as cosy, we did indulge in the wood burning stove which was a favourite of ours. Taking into consideration the current Covid-19 situation our host was very careful to ensure everything was done at a distance and they were not intrusive at all, despite being only at the end of the driveway if we did need them. Considering current climes we did find the lack of a fridge freezer, or indeed a stand alone freezer slightly limiting in that we needed to do a shop everyday as we were not able to dine out in the local area, equally as we did all our cooking for the week in the cottage the hob was rather dated and without markings, rather confusing to work, however, the oven was super. A few minor updates to the kitchen would make this a 10 out of 10 for us. We could not fault anything else, even the sun shone most of the week!

We were disappointed with certain aspects, it advised a Bbq ,non, iron and ironing board, non, the house smelt of dogs ,I am allergic to dust, you could literally right your name in the dust in certain areas, around the fireplace, s.

The wood burner had not been cleaned it was filthy, we did not use. The kitchen was clean, along with the bathrooms and bedrooms. The living room was very cold, the furniture was uncared for and covered in dog hair. The tv was to small for the room, had to strain to see. This property has potential but does not deserve the premium price tag, If offering supply, in good working order clean and loved. There is an epidemic which requires a high standard of cleanliness, this didn't reach every day standards. I would re think your star rating on this property. The area is beautiful, wonderful walks and outdoor pursuits, but these could be had at any accommodation in the area. No control of the heating, and some cold evenings.

Burnside Cottage on the Isle of Skye was amazing.

The position with views over the Loch from the fabulous panorama window in the lounge were stunning. The gardens were well stocked & looked after. James, the owner, had thought every little detail to make our stay comfortable & enjoyable. The fixtures & fittings & furniture were top quality, & it was like home from home! There were so many little additions which you do not usually get in rented accommodation, e.g. herbs, ice packs & a fitted picnic cool bag, umbrella, games, videos, t.v.'s in each bedroom, toiletries etc.etc. plus a box of fudge & roses!! I defy anyone to have a complaint & would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone. Well done James ( with the help of mum & dad!!)
