While well appointed with the pool room and sky sports useful given the bad weather, our stay was thoroughly disappointing.

The property was not clean, to the standard you would expect from a holiday let, and is overly dominated by the owners style and very old decor. There was a rusty, open razor blade left by the sink, and my son had a long pin lodged in his foot from the living room carpet within minutes. We spent the first night cleaning which is not a fair exchange of value for the hefty price tag. The fridge was dirty, there were cob webs everywhere. The toilets were soiled with hair (and worse) and the cheap towelling needed to have its tags removed. We had concerns that the hot tub did not appear to have had its chemicals added - it distinctly felt like âfreshâ water. This might not all be the owners fault. As a new property they should have been better served by Sykes in terms of advice of deep cleans and decor, rather than carefully constructing photos which distract from the problems at The Hideaway. I have given extensive feedback including photos, and for transparency received a moderate (in my opinion insufficient) rebate, but future potential l bookings should get some commitments from Sykes that previously raised concerns have all been addressed, as this is not a 5-tick property based on our experience (including users as a very happy user of Sykes cottages, without complaint.

The property is semi detached and Jane the owner lives next door.

It is very rural, between two hamlets with views of the South Downs. Jane met us on arrival and took us around the cottage and pointed out one or two things to be aware of and to show us which keys fitted which locks. She said if any issues we could speak to her as she was about most times. The cottage was very clean and carpeted throughout except the kitchen and utility area. The bedrooms and bathroom were spacious and the bed very comfortable. Ample storage and cupboards were provided. The shower has a pump system and a choice of rain shower or hand held shower and was very powerful. There was plenty of crockery, kitchen utensils etc for our needs so no problems there. Also a linen line was available to dry the washing. We were also entertained by the wildlife including birds and a family of rabbits which visited the garden in the evenings. All in all a very enjoyable holiday (helped by the good weather) and a very pleasant place to stay. Jane had a chat with us before we left and wished us a safe journey. We would certainly return again in the future.

We all thoroughly enjoyed staying in this property â there were 6 of us encompassing 4 generations .

The property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped throughout. We particularly enjoyed the objects scattered throughout the house and in the garden. My seven-year-old great granddaughter just adored the piano. The garden was so pretty and everyone loved the sauna and hot tub. The games room and the gym were a bonus. It would be difficult to be bored in this house . There is enough room in the drive for at least four large cars. There are 5 bedrooms with comfortable beds,3 of which are en suite. One of the bedrooms has a bath, another has a walk-in shower and the third has just a toilet. There is no communal/shared bathroom in the house. This did not present us with a problem but I think it is something to be aware of.

This was the second time we stayed here.

It is a wonderful spot, totally quiet with beautiful views. The cottage has lovely beds with soft duvets, blankets and sheets and fluffy towels and bathmats. It is soo nice to have a bath in the warm bathroom. The shower pressure could be better though. Having 5 rooms is nice for a family of 3-4, everyone can find their own place to relax. The kitchen is fully equiped and a small problem with the dishwasher was solved immediately.

We enjoyed a pleasant stay and welcome at this warm and well maintained cottage in a beautiful setting.

The cottage was left very clean for us. The beds and sofas were comfy, though we would welcome an extra small coffee table that could be placed at the end of the couch and also a standard lamp in the dining room for gloomy morning breakfasts when the main light is too bright. We may well return at a future date as the cottage is very convenient for visiting our son at his university. Many thanks.

The famour pier is one of the highlights, which is great entertainment for old and young alike. From May-September dogs are only permitted on certain beaches, make sure you check with the local council before you travel.

South Downs National Park

The South Downs National Park is England’s newest national park (designated on 31 March 2010) but first settlements in the South Downs date back over 5000 years. It spans 87 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne in the east and has a total area of 628 square miles. It is steeped in history and has beautiful woodlands, forests, waterways, fields and chalk hills which inhabit all types of wildlife. It is a great place to walk, hike, bike, swim, fish and more. The South Downs Way is a bridleway that runs entirely through the South Downs park, from Winchester to Eastbourne (100 miles), and is entirely off road, making it a peaceful trail. The Park has many access points, car parks, accessible routes & facilities, cafes, organised experiences and play areas. The best place to plan your trip is by visiting the South Downs Centre, North Street, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 9DH

Seven Sisters Country Park

This unique wildlife and heritage site in East Sussex is part of the South Downs National Park. The area is well served by public transport or there is ample parking spaces and there are food and beverage options at the visitors centre. Dog walkers are welcome though they will need to be leashed in certain areas.
