What our customers say about their holidays

    • Gavin - Verified booking

This is a dog friendly, small cottage in a tranquil rural setting.

The owners live on site. They are friendly and helpful but non-intrusive. Most importantly the cottage is spotlessly clean and everything, without exception, works perfectly. Large numbers of garden birds come to the feeders in full view of the cottage window. Some four or more ravens soar effortlessly in the thermals above the five acre site and interact with each other while on the wing. Less sociable interactions between the ravens and a family of buzzards add interest from time to time. There are two National Trust Gardens nearby; one only five minutes away the other some 20 minutes. The whole area is historically important. Christianity was introduced to Scotland in this region. Prior to the Christian era the west of Scotland Kings were 'installed' here. Once the church was established and the Kings converted, pre-existing pictish stones were modified, to carry Christian symbols on the reverse, and the burials of the deceased royalty was better organised by the Church. There are two thriving marinas within five minutes of the cottage, both offering day trips to inner Hebridean islands or to view the famous whirlpool off Jura or to fish. There is an important marine canal at Crinan and separately, on the road north towards Oban, there is a canal-like stretch of Atlantic Ocean, between the mainland and Seil Island, crossed by a large old stone bridge. Logically this is the 'Bridge over the Atlantic' and quite an adventure for the (grand)children. A number of woodland walks exist, graded and signposted by the Forestry Commission. The most accessible of these are by the Crinan Canal.

Lovely cottage, extremely clean & very well stocked.

The bed is very comfortable. Storage heaters which keep the cottage lovely & warm. Ample hot water which heats up overnight. Extremely peaceful. Owners live next door but don’t bother you once they have checked you in. Chickens live at the bottom of the garden & are well fenced in so dogs can’t get to them. Massive garden for dogs to roam freely with a massive grassy area behind the cottage for dogs to run & play, fenced in with spectacular views. The drive up is on a hilled farm track, stay in low gear & take your time & it’s easily passable. There is a gate at the top which the satnav wants to take you through, but turn sharp left & carry on up the hill to the cottage. The nearest shop is in Ardfern a 5 minute drive away (a small convenience store). The nearest supermarket is Tesco in Oban, half an hours drive away, so take your groceries with you. Storm Dennis accompanied us on our weekend break but we managed to do some site seeing.

      Amazing place and location.

Set way back from the road up the farm track so you feel like you've really got away from it all with breathtaking views of glens, hills and the sea, and the cottage itself is surrounded by gardens and paddock, vyou could just spend a week there without going out! Having said that, it is well located to get out into Kilmartin and surrounding areas. John and Sue were perfect hosts, John tipped me off about some of the great spots I might have missed. I should say I was up and down the farm track all the time, turned up in pouring rain (the only day) and came up it in the night, and my beaten up 15 year old Mondeo had no trouble. It takes you straight up and that's the pleasure of it, it gets you away from everything. I'll definite go back. Didn't want to leave. You'd be hard put to find such a spot like this. Cottage had everything you'd need to, and there are local shops.

Excellent place to chill out and use as a base for exploring the fantastic scenery.

Well thought out cottage with all the basic needs catered for. One bedroom with separate bathroom and a large open plan lounge/kitchen/eating area. The cottage was prepared to a very high standard and was spotless. The cottage is in effect totally isolated from the other rented cottage by John's workshop ( Man cave with RC planes and other big boys toys ) and the owners own property which is adjacent to the cottage. Total silence each night apart from the local sheep and the geese which fly in to an adjoining field each night for an hour or so. Each cottage gets it's own large piece of grass garden so there is a feeling of having total privacy. The owners (John and Sue ) are very friendly and helpful. They have been renting for some 20 years and seem to have everything covered. Would we go back? OH YES !!!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at this cottage.

It may partly have been due to lockdown cabin fever. It was just so great to have a change of scene. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we could possibly wish for. The hosts are very friendly and helpful but at the same time discrete. The cottage is next door to their home but we didn’t find this a problem at all. They have a beautiful garden in the front of the cottage. They would rather dogs were kept on the lead in this area as they have chickens. However there is a fantastic paddock 20 seconds from the cottage which is completely enclosed and safe which has wonderful views of Craobh Haven and the islands beyond. We did great walks in the area and all in all had a great holiday.
