What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stephanie - Verified booking

We arrived for the 1500hr check-in to find the patio doors open and the owner still busy inside.

The dishwasher and washing machine were partway through their cycle and the owner departed to purchase mould remover for the bathroom. He returned with wine, chocs and strawberries which was very kind of him. However, he left with the washing machine and dishwasher still going. We then noticed that the lounge and both bedroom doors had been damaged in what appeared to be a fight, with one bedroom door sealed shut. The lounge carpets were dirty with crumbs and hairs and all surfaces were very dusty. The kitchen floor and table were also dirty with dust, hairs and crumbs with greasy surfaces. There was a lack of cutlery, crockery and drinking vessels and the sink and taps were loose and unclean, with plates etc still on the drainage tray. It was so awful that I vacuumed the entire place myself and attempted to remove the grime from bedside tables and worktops. Despite this, our friends who arrived later noticed immediately how grubby the whole place was - very embarrassing for myself as I organised this break for everyone. The bedrooms and bathrooms were also filthy and strongly reeked of cigarette smoke, with aged pillows and mismatched bed linen in one of the rooms and a blocked toilet in the other. The smell when in bed was so bad that we left the next day. The 'double' beds were also 2 single mattresses held together by a double fitted sheet which came partially off in the night and the mattresses separated to leave an annoying gap. One of the beds had spiders in it which appeared when the duvet was turned back. I spent most of the night on the settee in the lounge. This 3 day stay cost us £939 and it was terrible - I don't know how it has a 3 star rating. The owner needs to get the entire place professionally deep-cleaned and dispose of all the pillows and probably mattresses, which we didn't dare look at. And properly stock the kitchen and clean and tidy all the drawers and cupboards. And sort the doors and fix the toilet. There was also a lack of smoke alarms.

What a magnificent place. My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend here and could not have wished for anything better. The Haybarn is a home created for comfort -- from the large, comfy couch to the well-equipped kitchen to the large screen TV (nicely disguised to blend in with the artwork) to the amazingly comfortable bedrooms and large bathrooms. We visited during a cold and windy weekend and ended up spending more time inside than planned as we had a puncture on our way to dinner so had to turn back, dine in (a good second choice since my husband is a fabulous cook!) and wait for the RAC to arrive the following day. What could have been a challenging situation turned out to be quite lovely: dinner at "home" with a good movie on the telly and a few glasses of wine. And we had our anniversary dinner the following night (at an excellent pub named The Parrot, about 10 minutes away in Forest Green). We both agreed that the Haybarn was one of the loveliest places we've stayed in. There's not a sound to be heard since it's in the countryside on a beautiful farm, and it's warm and cozy enough to make you want to snuggle up and go nowhere. We were also blown away by the very generous supplies left for us by the owners - that far exceeded most of the place we've stayed. It's on our list of places to return to.

The property is in need of a refurbishment,(especially what they are charging for it) it is very dated and there is a lingering stale smell.

It looked nothing like it did in the photos on your website! Despite this the general cleanliness and maintenance was very poor. The sofa bed was stained and extremely uncomfortable to sit/sleep on. There is carpet throught including the bathrooms which is not hygenic. There was black mold on the shower curtain which is unacceptable and a potential health issue for guests. The sink in the bathroom had a plug with a bit of wire attached to it? The second bathroom has a broken/dripping shower head. The bedding was old and didn't look as if it had been cleaned and the beds weren't made properly. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. There was an old pub style bench on the decking so nowhere to sit and relax. Although the park itself was lovely this was just not acceptable accommodation for us to holiday in so we left after one night.

Hope Cottage was small, but perfectly formed! It was quiet, comfortable and very well equipped. My wife enjoys cooking, especially when there is good local produce available. This was the case at the excellent Farmers' Market in Shoreham and in the local shops in Henfield and the surrounding area. The kitchen equipment was probably the best we have ever had in a holiday property, and there was a great welcome hamper to get us started. The owners respected our privacy, but were very friendly when we did meet them, and we had a clear impression that they would have been available if we had needed their help. Finally the cottage was a good base for walking and touring in the lovely Sussex countryside.

Loved every minute of our stay at Willow Pod.

Pauline and Paul are great hosts and very thoughtful. Friendly and responded in a timely manner. Everything was as described. The pod was clean and the design / interior of the pod demonstrated the thoughtfulness and their vision - wanting their guests to enjoy their stays and appreciate every little thing that would bring comfort and convenience. I also appreciated the amenities. It made the stay truly special. Great location, walking distance to shops and activities / local attractions to keep you going. Our dog also enjoyed his stay and enjoyed his walks in the beautiful surroundings. If you are a dog owner, worth bringing a long training leash so that your dog can roam in safety.
