What our customers say about their holidays

My wife and I visited for a three day break in February 2024.

The setting is idyllic, over-looking the water, with lots of wildlife to watch (we even saw an otter!). Willow is one of three identical cabins around the same water, but they are well spaced out. In drafting this review I re-visited the website and realised that the photos showing the exterior of the cabin are not (at the time of writing) actually of Willow – the hot tub is further away from the main cabin at Willow. Anyway. the cabin is very cosy, and with the fire going it is beautifully warm and romantic. Everything is still fairly new, clean, tidy and unblemished. I liaised by message with Elinor, and she was very responsive, including in dealing with some of the points below. My wife and I are seasoned self-catering UK holiday makers, and I always recommend to hosts that they live in a property for a while (ie several days) to experience the property as a guest would. I suspect Elinor may not have done so, as there are little things that could be done to make a stay even more comfortable. For example, more hooks on the walls/doors for coats/hangers, providing washing up gloves and a bowl, providing kitchen roll, kitchen foil, etc etc. Nothing earth shattering, but just little things you notice are absent when living there for a few days. I can think only of two ‘gripes’, which are worth mentioning. Although the listing made reference to ‘electric heaters’ (plural), there was only one (until Elinor provided us with a second, upon my request). The heater is a portable oil filled electric heater, which you have to wheel between the bedroom and main living space. It is not programmable, and takes quite some time to heat up. The log burner really does blast out the heat, but that doesn’t help when you first get up, and the main living space is really rather cold. A couple of hardwired, controllable (ie with timers) wall mounted electric heaters (one for the bedroom, one for the main room) would do the job nicely. Secondly, the listing describes a “King-sized bedroom”. Obviously there’s no such thing, so we took this as short-hand for “bedroom with a king-size bed”. The bed was certainly very comfy, but it’s definitely a 4’6” Double, and not a 5’ king size. I realise that any criticism, even when it’s constructive, can be viewed negatively. This isn’t my intention. We had a lovely time, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Willow for a cosy romantic getaway. Just remember to take your own washing up gloves!

The Dragonfly Lodge is an absolutely beautiful place to stay.

It is private, secluded and scenic - really peaceful with the only real sound coming from all the wildlife. We stayed for my other half’s birthday and it was exactly as the listing states. It does have to be accessed via a farm track which then leads on to a field of sheep you have to walk across. Just be mindful that the ground can be uneven in parts so watch your step! The sheep are lovely and do not bother you. As it is so secluded there’s no lighting but the owner kindly provides a torch should you wish to venture out once the sun goes down. They also provide a luggage trolley which was extremely helpful for all our bags. The owner Elinor is always on hand if you need anything. The lodge itself is beautiful - well looked after. Linen and towels provided but we also brought our own towels for the hot tub. all the furniture is very comfortable and fits in well with the decor. The owner kindly left us some fresh eggs and a jar of honey as well, which was a lovely touch. The hot tub is so relaxing and really easy to heat up via the wood burner to your desired temperature. It’s a perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down before returning inside to sit by the cosy wood burner in the living room. The wildlife was a real highlight - we saw swans and coots enjoying the water with their families/babies. It’s an ideal place to be at one with nature. You have a whole patch of the lake to yourself that is not overlooked by the other lodges which was perfect. There are lots of trails for you to go for a walk and plenty of information on those in the welcome book. We went to Draycote Water on one of the days and did the wildlife trail which we would definitely recommend. We finished it off in the evening by visiting The Dun Cow pub in Dunchurch where we had a fabulous meal - would highly recommend visiting there. We loved every minute and can’t wait to come back! Thank you Elinor

A huge thank you to the hosts for creating such a secluded and peaceful escape from everyday life.

We went to Dragonfly with intentions of walking, site seeing, visiting various locations and it all went out the window on day one because of how peaceful this location is. It truly is cosy cabin vibes all over. The log fire and hot tub are brilliant and really add to that touch of luxury. We took our Labrador who is trained not to run off, probably the only thing to consider if you’re bringing a pet is the lake, the sheep and your dogs recall. Given it’s a pet friendly cabin it’s so clean, no dog hair etc. The description is very clear that you have to make a small walk through a field, bare this in mind for footwear some walking boots or wellies wouldn’t go amiss in the winter months but isn’t a issue and in our opinion add to the whole secret cabin vibe. All the basics available for cooking pots and pans etc, although we bring our own when it a listing is self-catering. Thank you for making our first wedding anniversary perfect.

      Wow! Just wow!

What a phenomenal holiday home, the cabin itself is extremely well equipped, cosy and I credibly comfortable - best nights sleep in the wonderful bed! Pet friendly, our dogs loved being in the setting, walks for miles and miles! Lots of local farm shops, fishmongers and supermarkets making self catering not only easy but also a total treat! We stayed for two nights and because of the amazing cabin and setting, we didn’t want to leave or go out for dinner! The hot tub was far too appealing and didn’t disappoint! Everything about our holiday was exceptional, including the wonderful owner Elinor who couldn’t have been more attentive! We will definitely be returning and have already recommended this to many of our family and friends! The perfect break away for total relaxation! Can’t wait to visit again soon!
