If you want sandy beaches and fresh local ice cream, try the charming seaside resorts of Minehead or Weston-Super-Mare. If you're more into hiking or cycling, try somewhere up on Exmoor or in the beautiful Quantock Hills. Or, visit impressive historical properties like Dunster Castle or Hestercombe House. Be sure not to miss the West Somerset Steam Railway, as well as some of the charming local traditions such as wassailing and the May Day celebrations in Minehead, when the hobby horse is paraded around the streets.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nichola - Verified booking

We had such a lovely few days staying here.

The lodge is really sweet and was clean and cosy ready for our arrival! The views are amazing and it’s such a peaceful location. The garden is fully enclosed so we could let our little pooch wander about without worrying about her dashing after a rabbit into the great beyond! It was lovely to have breakfast and watch the blue tits etc feeding close by and the horses in the fields below. We really did just relax and unwind! It’s a great location for exploring the scenery. We visited Lyme Regis, Exmouth & did some lovely coastal walks. The cooker & microwave came in handy for cooking simple dinners. The essentials were there in the kitchen such as W/up liquid, dishwasher tablets/ T-towel (but only the one)/dishcloth & sponge, also the kitchen had various saucepans bowls/spoons & equipment you’d need. The only think I missed was a jug to measure the stock for the Risotto I cooked. The owner was really nice & responsive and supplied fresh towels for the bathroom later in the week when requested, and answered our questions about closest supermarket. The only thing extra I would have liked is hand towels for the kitchen & extra for the bathroom, but the owner is so nice I’m sure he would have dropped some off if I’d asked. I would definitely like to return! I am missing the tranquility of the setting as I type

Myself, Mom and 2 Children stayed over the October Half Term Week.

Walking into the lodge the only words we had were ‘wow’. It was absolutely beautiful and more, the pictures online really don’t do it justice. We had the most amazing, relaxing week away, it is located on such a peaceful pitch overlooking the golf course, close to all amenities all within walking distance, swimming, soft play, pubs etc. The lodge itself had everything you could possibly need, the welcome pack was such a lovely touch, Thankyou. Beds were comfy, towels were fluffy, enough toilet roll, kitchen roll, foil, cloths etc to start you off. I absolutely loved cooking in the kitchen. Shower was great and an added bonus of tvs in all the bedrooms. If I was being picky I would ask for more hangers, a couple more hooks around, esp for a dressing gown in the bedrooms would be handy/tea towel in the kitchen, maybe a bigger bin in the kitchen and a small lamp in the twin bedroom as the main light can be a little bright when you want to read at night. The clothes rack was slightly broken which we left a comment in the comments book which I’m sure has been sorted already. Overall it was a much needed break away and we were so lucky to spend it in such a beautiful lodge, so much so we have just booked to go back February half term. Thankyou and we can’t wait to come back soon :)

The lodge was very clean and had everything you need for a short stay.

We took a lot of things with us such as washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen towel, toilet roll etc but it was already supplied. We even had a welcome hamper left for us including teas, coffee, milk, eggs, bread etc and my most favourite of all was the homemade shortbread! My dog had a welcome pack too! That was a lovely surprise. It was modern and very comfortable. We were pleased to find that the driveway had a gate so our dog couldn't escape! And the lovely kids play house was full of toys also. The only criticism we would have is the driveway down to the lodge. We have a 4x4 and it was very tight getting down to the lodge especially with those huge rocks on the bend, but we did with no mishap thankfully! The view was beautiful and we loved watching the horses in their paddocks. It was so quiet and peaceful, a great place to escape to. We would very much like to stay here again in the future!

This was our second stay at Swandown and this is our first review.

Our family of 4 (we have twin boys aged 11) love coming here, the standard of the lodges are fantastic (we have stayed at lodges 9 and 14) everything you need is at hand in the kitchen, the living areas are very comortable and have plenty of space and the outdoor areas are lovely too. The staff are very welcoming, great to deal with and friendly. The supermarkets are a 10 minute drive, the local pub a 5 minute walk (and has fantastic views from the garden) and the local golf club (all welcome) is a 5 minute drive, both are great for eating out. The likes of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Burnham, Weymouth & Teignmouth are reachable in an hour and Minehead, Torquay and Bournemouth around 90 mins so perfectly located for day trips out. This is one of our favourites and we will definately be returning.

The listing made it clear that guests had access to services in the nearby hotel.

However, having walked to the hotel, we were told on arrival that there was no contract in place between Swandown and the hotel and there hadn’t been for some time. It was clearly not the first time that the hotel had told guests that this was the case, so we are very disappointed that the listing had not been corrected as this was part of our reason for deciding on choosing Swandown. Also the path to the nearby pub was only illuminated in places (lights exist but are not all working). Not sure who owns the path to the pub but if it’s one down then it would be good to get the path lights repaired. Other than that, we had a lovely weekend and would recommend swan Down
